  1. You probably saw the biggest house cleaning you’ll ever see in April probably ever. Getting rid of the CBO right now as well just creates more confusion, and it’s not like there is some big storeroom somewhere loaded with unemployed CBO/GMs in hermetically sealed bags just waiting for Amazon to deliver them. “Did you order the Mike Rizzo? I don’t think it’s going to fit.”
  2. How do actual MLB players feel about it? I would imagine it’s a split. Very few sweeping generalizations are true for everyone. Certainly some players like having or knowing their role, but others don’t necessarily have to know or care and just want to play. So with the players who need it - and never underestimate the superstitions MLB players have - define their role as best as possible. But it’s very unlikely all of them need it spelled out…
  3. Do MLB players get to vote on firing their manager on other teams?
  4. Accepted the offer…
  5. That Varitek was fired but the Sox didn’t have the guts to say so, so they called it “re-assignment”…
  6. Probably a good thing. Lucchino was unpopular and had major charisma issues, but he’s one of the most successful front office people is US sports history…
  7. Jared Carrabis was right?
  8. He’s 95. I recommend going month-to-month.
  9. I think the issue is fans get unreasonable expectations and have no patience. BA has been scouting and publishing prospect list for decades. But younger players get rushed to MLB faster now more so out of economic necessity. Mayer has 208 career PA. Campbell has 263 career PA. Anthony has 400 career PA (and is still only 21). Some players don’t hit right away. 500 PA into his career and Mike Schmidt was still batting under .200. If I was ok for Schmidt, it’s ok for these three…
  10. Monasterio’s steal/non-slide was kind of dumb. I can get not sliding because he just injured his plant foot with a foul ball, but then why run? Abreu was being too aggressive but also expecting a bunt to get laid down…
  11. 1. Not caring about WAR doesn’t change that Tatis is still an elite player. 2. Tatis hit .268/.368/.442 last year with 32 HRs, won his second Gold Glove and finished 8th in MVP voting, and it wasn’t even one of his better years. How is that not living up to the hype?
  12. The Sox seem to be struggling with RHP, too. In fact, some of those lefties - notably Duran - have been doing better vs southpaws…
  13. I had a couple changes right - Duran back to leadoff (first suggested by 5Gold but I agreed), and keeping Wong’s hotter bat in the lineup. Not at all on board with Monasterio starting at SS instead of Mayer. But I shouldn’t be so shocked to see him starting today either…
  14. And the players themselves, who are not without some blame…
  15. Much like suggestions of hiring a nonagenarian like Morgan have done with you :)
  16. It’s an old tactic. Start at the bottom and work your way up. If firing Cora works, they move forward. If it fails, Breslow is next. A good example is Philly. They fired Girardi and replaced him with Thomson. The team immediately got better and even made the postseason. Had they stayed cold and missed the postseason, Dombrowski was next up on the hot seat…
  17. In that case, better call him quickly!!
  18. 1. Overdramatizing the state of the roster doesn’t change that it’s not the worst in MLB. 2. It’s on field performace was with several players off to career-worst starts. (Admittedly some of these are shorter careers.) 3. Unlike Cora, Breslow likely had financial limitations.
  19. Nothing posted. I’ll take a guess despite all I know about Tracy is he is a former Dbacks infielder who just saw his career evaporate by age 26, but hung on for several more years. Ok that saud Duran LF Anthony/Yoshida DH. (Is Roman back yet?) Contreras 1b Abreu RF Story 2b Mayer SS Durbin 3b Rafaela CF Wong C
  20. f*** him. Why would anyone hire that antiquated egomaniac? Is Joe Morgan still alive? The Sox could use a little Morgan Magic right about now…
  21. Apparently there were some issues with young players not following the team’s development process, which may or may not have been very good anyway. But that’s not talent evaluation, and most of the young players the Sox extended were among the top young players/prospects in the game per neutral third-party publications like Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus. The roster wasn’t ideal but it wasn’t among the worst in MLB. The on-field performance, however, was…
  22. If Breslow was guiding Cora, Story would have moved to 2b long ago. No reason to think it starts here…
  23. No doubt it was a Breslow call. Kennedy is an invertebrate. Unlike Cora, Breslow has some leverage. They filled Cora’s job in 3 minutes. How long does it take to replace Breslow if he gets fired?
  24. Obvious question, but what makes you think he has blatant weaknesses like not being able to hit lefties, but his stock was still high? I mean, if we know his weaknesses, safe bet every scout knows them and 10 more. Also, you phrased this like Mayer is a switch hitter. I assume you meant “against lefties and righties”…
