  1. Maybe. The Sox have Gonzalez, Hamilton and Gray for infield beyond the starters. But only two catchers on the 40 man roster..
  2. Well, improving it over Alonso and Vientos, so… baby steps, I guess…
  3. Maybe he should use his MasterCard instead… <rimshot>
  4. My point. Cora verbally said Mayer was his 3b, but that means nothing now…
  5. Then sign Jonah Heim, just because it stops Craig from looking for backup catchers. C: Narvaez 1b: Contreras 2b: Mayer 3b: Paredes SS: Story LF: Duran CF: Rafaela RF: Abreu DH: Anthony Bench: Heim, Gonzalez, Hamilton, Yoshida (Wong to Worcester for now) SP: Crochet/Suarez/Gray/Sandoval/Crawford (Oviedo) BP: Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Weissert, Hicks, Moran, Harrison, Watson DFA: Sogard (to add Sánchez). Heim gets signed/added after Houck is placed on the 60 day IL).
  6. The Mets rotation on Roster Resource is McLean, Peterson, Holmes, Manaea snd Senga. They need SP, too…
  7. Maybe. Maybe not. I know it didn’t go over with many fans. Many probably were specific to the politics. I disagreed with his commitment…
  8. The point was Cora spoke too quickly commiting Mayer as his 3b. It’s really no big deal…
  9. I mean, Gary Sánchez has never shown he can’t play 2b. What’s wrong with Craig?
  10. John Henry does have 5 World Series rings. Even the crew out in LA cannot make that claim. I mean, they can, but not without lying. Schwarber would have been nice. Alonso was and always will be a questionable fit. They have added Gray, Suarez, Contreras and are still going. These are NOT just cheap filler talents like Franchy. They are actually pursuing good players…
  11. Absolutely. If the Mets are acquiring 3 years of a 5 WAR player in Duran, they should give up more than 4 years of a 2 WAR player in Baty…
  12. I prefer not to get too political, but he skipped out on his team during a pennant race to attend Charlie Kirk’s funeral/political rally. It would be one thing if he grew up with Kirk or had some connection beyond that, but he prioritized his politics over his team, and in a way even more selfish than the anti-vaxers not allowed into Canada. This response hedges into territory that has a very negative history on this board. So if you’re. Going to respond, rather than focus on the specifics of Shaw’s actions, at a bare minimum ignore the side and his views and focus solely on their priority over baseball, his job…
  13. Not sure why Alex Cora suffering a broken arm would re-align the Sox infield…
  14. I don’t think they will be disappointed to have Mayer at 3b even in that case. They might be disappointed with settling for Player X at 2b, however…
  15. And that’s the problem. In their search for a 2b/3b, why did the Sox bypass such clear cut star talents like Schwarber and Alonso? It’s like Henry doesn’t want to win…
  16. It’s not so much the option as it is the 40 man roster spot…
  17. Reportedly the Sox plsn is still Narvaez ss the starter, which, if true, means a backup catcher search. How fun! If they want someone to start ahead of Narvaez, Ryan Jeffers? Good bat. Questionable glove. Free agency has potential returns of Reese McGuire and Christian Vazquez. Or former All Star turned non-tender Jonah Heim. And if they were really Sox go down this path, will they consider that Connor Wong has experience at 1b,2b,3b and corner OF in his major and minor league career? Or just DFA him?
  18. Is it really a bluff? I don’t think the Sox will be too disheartened if they’re “stuck” with Marcelo Mayer at 3b again…
  19. I’m ok with Paredes, Baty is a left-handed line drive hitter. If you like that profile, Hes not bad. Shaw is a terrific defensive player who did have a .839 OPS in the second half last. But strikes me as a selfish douchebag…
  20. Cut him some slack. He was just at Legal Seafood. That clam chowder has a way of putting on those winter pounds…
  21. Who cares? Remember when they needed a shortstop and announced Pedroia was a candidate? It’s possible these are simply negotiation tactics. “Hey, we don’t NEED Isaac Paredes. We are perfectly willing to let Mayer play third again. So slow down those demands, Cowboy.” If they were really already committed to Mayer at third, why am I still seeing Paredes rumors?
  22. 1. The Mets need a CF, and the reason they need one is they traded their CF Nimmo in order to get Semien. Doubtful they follow up by moving Semien for a defensively challenged corner OF. (Side note: Didn’t the Mets acquire Jose Siri last offseason? Is he dead or something?) 2. Roster Resource has McLean penciled in ss the Mets’ opening day starter, which redefines the word “pathetic” for a team with a payroll well over $300mill. Extremely doubtful they weaken that rotation even further by trading the top of it for a CF. Unless their attitude is “this rotation is a flaming pile of garbage anyway”, which I doubt it is.
  23. The Sox have the following SPs on the 40 man roster Houck Crochet Bello Crawford Sandoval Gray Early Tolle Oviedo Harrison Bennett Drohan Uberstine And thats not counting Suarez, which will bring the Sox to 14 starting pitchers. Granted, Houck is out and a few likely become relievers. But that’s a lot of roster spots dedicated to SP. To me, Bello is the perfect storm of “good enough to get something but not so good he will be missed.”
