  1. That’s actually a very stupid was to run this team that could amount to pissing away hundreds of millions of dollars if those prospects don’t work out. And isn’t even guaranteed to work if they do…
  2. Technically, Epstein never signed Bailey. The Sox acquired Bailey in December, 2011 in a trade with Oakland for Josh Reddick by then-GM Ben Cherington. Epstein signed on with the Cubs two months prior. I’m not sure Epstein has any simple connection to Bailey…
  3. He was. Oakland overused him, too. Foulke threw 52 pitches in game one of the 2003 ALDS against Boston, and followed it up with a 22 pitch effort the following night. The guy routinely topped 80 IP in an era where most closers give you 70 or so. Not to mention, he did follow up that 3 outing/100 pitch stretch with 5 more IP in the World Series…
  4. His 2019 was pretty short. Of course, given Nate’s history, that could be unrelated…
  5. Still like to add another arm or two, preferably of major league caliber…
  6. As opposed to the alternate theory that they’re really a single person?
  7. I’m not disagreeing with that, but: 1. Is Foulke reasonable? I can’t speak for him. 2. Foulke is much more aware of his off-season training and workout regimen than we are and might even realize he hurt himself elsewhere
  8. Foulke might never have connected the two. And maybe for good reason…
  9. I don’t remember the last trade in which the Sox acquired two starting pitchers…
  10. I don’t think DHam is a deal changer. If they would deal Luzardo for Mayer, it might be worth it.
  11. Henry won’t pay for your first choice. Cabrera might have more upside but until he taps into it, he’s just a guy throwing 97mph who is as likely to walk you as fan you. Reportedly Miami offered him for Justin Turner last year at the deadline…
  12. So Miami makes their SS situation worse? Because right now Berti is their starter according to Roster Resource…
  13. Opinion is divided on that, which tells me it’s probably a fair deal. Except that Miami needs a shortstop more than they need an outfielder, even one who is probably better than at least two of their three (projected) starters…
  14. If we look back, the Padres offer was something like Myers, and a lot of names like Lucchesi, Quantrill, Campusano, and Josh Naylor, with Naylor being the only one who would have been close to being worthwhile…
  15. Oh I wasn’t talking about Betts to the Padres. Just Price. I would imagine their willingness to dump Myers and not take on Price is a big reason they’re pitching to Betts today as opposed to letting the Dodgers do it…
  16. I think you’re too far down on Edward Cabrera. I think he has raw stuff to be an ace and I think (re:hope) Bailey can do for him what he did for Gausman. I’d give up Duran for Cabrera yesterday, but Miami’s top priority is a shortstop, and presumably not for one year. Teams that could definitely use Duran include Houston, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Anaheim, Detroit, Kansas City, Washington, and San Diego. But what shortstop would any of them party with for Duran that’s good enough to snag Cabrera? (And why not just go get Cabrera with said shortstop, since they probably all need a pitcher or two as well.)
  17. That they did do. I thought they could have dealt Price for (ugh) Wil Myers. Price was owed more money ($26mill more) but even if no cash changed hands, 3 years of Price for $26mill net seemed like a good deal. And Myers really low AAV added even more savings for Boston. But no such deal materialized. Possibly San Diego want so enthusiastic…
  18. They wanted to unload as much money as possible and those two were the highest paid players on the team. That they couldn’t agree on an extension with Betts was also undoubtedly a factor…
  19. Jordan Montgomery…
  20. Last I saw he was still posting on freeforums…
  21. Was he going to be around? It’s a nice offer, but I wouldn’t take it personal if he didn’t fly up from Houston to accept it…
  22. I’m not on board with all of this, but I do agree with some. Mostly the last one since I’ve been saying it for several years…
  23. I think you mean earlier, right? I joined her in the Dreaded 2014, and He Who Shall Not Be Named was already gone from this forum, just like he was from BDC years earlier…
  24. I’d have greatly preferred Lester…
  25. Fujinami headlined my Reliever Wish List if Houck (or ?) was used in the rotation. Now that sad little list is headlined by Ryne Stanek and the oft-injured Codi Heuer, with Josh Fleming making the occasional cameo. I’m more hopeful for Jordan Montgomery or Mike Clevinger at this point, although I’m openly willing to settle for Eric Lauer…
