  1. Bassitt might be more appealing to some, but Gausman really had his best years working with Bailey…
  2. Not replacing Giolito was just so questionable. Ok it’s one thing to not pony up $25-35mill for Snell or Montgomery. But a lot of experienced MLB pitchers were accepting minor league deals. Why were the Sox not involved?
  3. MLB in general favors left-handed hitters more.
  4. But 3 of the 5 lefties you named are Hall of Famers. What about Lefty Joe Lunchpail?
  5. I hope they simply use Hamilton and Romy in a platoon. And at some point, msybe Grissom comes back. Unless they really like Andy Ibanez and can get him from Detroit…
  6. When Wingenter comes back, he’s gonna be looking for you…
  7. At the rate Campbell is getting promoted and embarrassing AA pitchers, maybe he is able to answer the call before Grissom…
  8. I was on the Paul DeJong bandwagon for a while. And I’ll still be glad if they add him. But then I wonder what is the fallout. Say they get DeJong. Rafaela moves to CF. This means Duran goes to LF. Then who plays RF and who sits between O’Neill and Abreu? I just question if the Sox would go it. Maybe demoting Valdez and leaving 2b to Hamilton/Gonzalez will create a satisfactory bump in defense…
  9. Notin’s revamped Deadline Wish List Priority 1: Starting pitcher. Preferences in order are 1. Zach Eflin 2. Nate Eovaldi 3. Yusei Kikuchi 4. Tyler Anderson. Any of these 4 makes me happy. Priority 2: RHH OF/1b/DH. Mark Canha is the perfect fit here. Priority 3: Starting pitching depth. Nothing crazy, just maybe a Chris Flexen-type.
  10. No, but it’s easier to teach pitchability than velocity…
  11. He did get fired, but over a year after going over the cap…
  12. No idea why people get worked up about that, especially with high school shortstops. Would people be happier if we grabbed a worse 18yo athlete solely because he played a different position that he’s going to be switched from?
  13. Westbrook has 27 plate appearances. There’s a better than decent chance he doesn’t hold up as is. Interestingly, Westbrook is 11 days older…
  14. “… if the deal was right” is such a ******** qualifier. It’s sad that Sam Kennedy still speaks in phrases we call each other out for on Talksox…
  15. His StatCast is impressive when you consider that his Bat Speed is practically the worst in MLB… https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/justin-turner-457759?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
  16. Nick Senzel was just placed on release waivers, which he very likely clears. But a claim wouldn’t be a financial albatross. He has a .717 PS vs LHP this year. Not great but he is .783 for his career and was over 1.000 in 2023. He has played 2b, 3b, and all 3 outfield spots. Presumably he could handle 1b, although it isn’t necessary with Romy Gonzalez around. His StatCast shows both clear strengths and weaknesses. Could platoon at 2b with Hamilton or in RF with Abreu. He’s a better option than Jamie Westbrook…
  17. If Breslow doesn’t get one, then he should sell…
  18. Yeah there was time to replace Giolito. That they didn’t activate Whitlock getting hurt is unfathomable to me. Get another SP ASAP…
  19. That the Sox still only have 4 starting pitchers at this point and don’t have a bunch on the injured list makes me think starting pitcher should be their second priority at the deadline. Along with being the first…
  20. Unless Vaughn Grissom shows up healthy.
  21. Yes, but only if the player also had, say, 8 Gold Gloves…
  22. Anderson gets credited with a save in a 7-0 game in which the opposing team got 4 hits…
  23. Until you remember this game https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/OAK/OAK202307180.shtml
  24. The only season in his career in which Wong had a reverse split was in 2022, when lefties dominated him for all of 18 plate appearances…
  25. Having lived in Worcester, I can tell you there is nothing cool about it…
