  1. I'm sure if Boston had a competitive (Re: excessive) offer, Montgomery would have had more interest. Interest is often tied to financial commitment. Certainly players want to win, but I can't tell you how many teams have signed with some sub-.500 team for a boatload of cash and then in the press conference talked about how they went to that team to win. When asked about why he signed somewhere, it's really rare to hear a player say "they paid me the most money. Duh!"
  2. Nice to know your share the same sense of fashion as my teenage daughter...
  3. OK, but that means acknowledging they are a lesser degree of wrong on occasion...
  4. Hoping the new names on the right side can at least bring some average D to the infield...
  5. No, but that might be what Bloom was doing...
  6. But bottom line - they make plenty of mistakes and miss lots of stories. And some of them have clear angles. And let's face it, many of them prefer to be negative because nothing keeps you reading them more than bad news. Nothing in any aspect of journalism (including sports) attracts more readers and viewers than bad news. Mazz, in particular, always reminds me of the Peter Jacobson character from 61*, first man to find/create negativity and controversy to pass it on and keep people tuned in...
  7. Off topic, but I always wondered if people outside of New England and Michigan even understood that episode. It was so regional...
  8. Admit it. You had your hand in Chavis for Davis...
  9. I think he might have had interest if Boston was willing to pay him as much or more than the Dodgers offered.
  10. We like to live in a world where the media has 100% access to everything, but the reality is they simply don't and never will. Plenty of these players sign deals with no previous story that the team and player were even talking...
  11. I thought from Day One of the off-season that Montgomery was the better option than the mercurial Blake Snell. Montgomery was unspectacular, but was at least consistently good. Whereas Snell was either elite or average and never in between, and this was due to his frequent injuries...
  12. Well, if you’re on the front lines, you need to be comfortable…
  13. Dumpster diving? We got a first baseman who was an All Star less than 2 years ago. If people consider that dumpster diving, then they’re just inconsolable. Those are the people looking at the Sox 18-13 record solely focused on that 13. Now Breslow at least did the smart thing with scooper and made a trade rather than hoping his waiver claim went through. (No way it would have.)
  14. Unless you like Lester/Buchholz/Masterson
  15. He gave up on the wrong ones. Payamps? Good bye Littell? Seen enough Jacques? Gotta keeper! Ort?
  16. I was on the Gray Train...
  17. Those who can't do...
  18. Yep. Bloom’s inactions were his biggest problem. And why I was glad to see him go. Sad, too, because when he actually made moves, they occasionally turned out ok. Wilted Abreu, Nick Pivetta, Garrett Whitlock, Reese McGuire. His signature trade will always be a flop, but I don’t think he had a choice, and maybe he was right to turn down Brusdar Graterol…
  19. Saves time and money. Just cut out making the bomb and go right to the metal fragments…
  20. Nothing worked for Gedman…
  21. Also you walked right past the lucky thing. Any reason?
  22. Yeah but let’s see if they work out. Smith has been in decline for a while now. I’m not saying the Sox should have passed on him; I’m saying the jury is stop out…
  23. I honestly don’t remember what opportunities he had. I do get why he didn’t commit to any player under control for too long, since Casas was breaking down the door. And you gotta admit it is pretty lucky when a team DFAs a cheap .270 hitting former All Star (from only 2 years ago!) who just happened to play the position you found yourself most in need of due to injury…
  24. Everybody criticized Dwight Evans’ swing. But it worked for him!
  25. 7 DRS in the last 3 seasons. I’m surprised/shocked. Well, now I get to see first hand…
