  1. My goal is to stop that in its tracks!!
  2. I’m thinking more like: C -Wong 1b - Casas 2b - Drury. Or a platoon with Hamilton (vs RHP)/Ibanez or Gonzalez (vs LHP) SS - Rafaela 3b - Devers LF - O’Neill CF - Duran RF - Abreu (Refsnyder vs LHP) DH - Yoshida (Canha vs LHP)
  3. I said it earlier. RF in a platoon with Abreu
  4. No reverse platoon split if you look at 2024 by itself. But there is one if you look at his career numbers…
  5. Team has been around since 1903. Is 2014 really too far back? I mean, Iglesias is still playing. Not like I went for guys already in Cooperstown…
  6. Wingenter reportedly has some seriously envious metrics on his slider. I believe it has a 50% whiff rate. If so, he might be worth a shot. His main problem these last few years has been a slew of injuries. So it probably won’t be an extended look…
  7. Because 2b is a clear weakness? And this is not a new problem. It’s possible a Hamilton/Gonzalez platoon might fix it, but it’s easy to doubt. Drury is having severe offensive issues this year, which bothers me. The under-the-radar guy is Andy Ibanez, who is actually tied for 17th for all MLB second basemen in fWAR since the start of 2023. He plays less than 50% of the time, but is still better than nearly 50% of all starters? Sounds solid to me. Of course the big issue is will his game translate to full time? He is CRUSHING LHP this year (1.017 OPS), and is that inflating him? His horrific .317 OPS vs RHP appears to be the product of a ridiculously small sample size. So if 2b is an issue (and it is) - Drury and hope for the bounce back? Ibanez and hope his game translates? Or Hamilton/ Gonzalez, and stay with the boring status quo internal solution platoon?
  8. For a while during the Cherington years, the Sox had Moncada, Javier Guerra, Jose Iglesias, and a few others who eventually didn’t pan out. Is this new lot really better?
  9. Shockingly, I agree with Moldy Red here. In fact, I think you can take that statement back a full 6 seasons and it’s still true, with Brock Holt in 2019 being the only other name deserving any sort of mention…
  10. Sale broke a rib by simply throwing a warm-up pitch, yet no one gave up on him for that unprecedented injury. In fact, rumor has it the Sox got burned by trading him…
  11. Ok so we keep Dom Smith and release Chase Anderson…
  12. I think we all know Smith is gone when Casas returns. Even Smith knows it. And I don’t expect much from Casas when he returns, but I don’t expect much from Dom Smith , either. And if the Sox follow my top two priorities and get Mark Canha, he can play 1b and give Casas the occasional day off. Not that I think they will…
  13. There was a time for Dom Smith. But there’s a reason he’s been getting by on minor league deals the last couple years…
  14. So … good parents, successful family. Beachfront homeowners. And he’s a musician! Sounds pretty well-rounded…
  15. Smith’s peak OPS this year is .678. Casas’ career OPS in April is .718. I can stand by my statement…
  16. Also I think I prefer Ibanez over Drury this season. Drury’s sub-.500 OPS is a big turn off, especially since it is so unexplained…
  17. Oh ok. Corner OF is fine for Ref…
  18. Never! That’s Evil Scientist Thinking!!
  19. Did we acquire a SS in this scenario?
  20. A Triton Casas slow start is still at least as good as peak Dominic Smith…
  21. RF platoon with Abreu. I doubt the Sox get Drury and Canha, and the way Drury is going this year, hard pass. Andy Ibanez might be an upgrade at 2b, at least vs LHP. But it creates a roster crunch with Gonzalez/Hamilton…
  22. My revised list Priority 1 - SP. Here I like Tyler Andersondue to an additional year of control and a Bailey-esque approach on the mound. Priority 2 - RHH. Mark Canha (.851 OPS vs RHP) makes for a platoon at DH with Yoshida or can play 1b until Casas comes back. Priority 3 - MI. Brandon Drury was a RHH and good fielding 2b with pop until this year. Pass. Andy Ibanez has become possibly the most underrated 2b in MLB right now, due to good defense and the ability to murder LHP (1.027 vs LHP this year). Priority 4 - Bullpen. If they just get priority 1 and bump Winckowski back here, this might be a non-issue…
  23. But I think most believe you have to get through the slow start. And that it’s best to not prolong out…
  24. I judged Bloom on both…
  25. Fair point. “Can DH” doesn’t mean “must DH”…
