  1. Scott is the most logical fit for Boston, as our lefty reliever candidates are Brennan Bernardino, Zach Penrod, and Cam Booser. Beyond Scott, the most intriguing lefty might be Andrew Chafin. And honorable mentions go out to Aroldis Chapman and Danny Coulombe. Although Coulombe had a rather affordable $4mill option that Baltimore backed out of, which gives me pause. Especially when you consider how effective he’s been for them the last two seasons…
  2. Trea Turner did that as well, which in the long run wound up benefiting Xander Bogaerts…
  3. Actually, if you buy the first 10 years at $70mill, you get the last 4 for free…
  4. Don’t be like Morgan Freeman in Shawshank Redemption. But if we’re being honest about Soto, I don’t exactly think the Dodgers are moving Gold Glove right fielder Mookie Betts back to the infield so they can accommodate Randal Grichuk, if you get my not-so-subtle drift….
  5. Until he signs somewhere else, he’s in play. And don’t be that Dream Dasher Guy. It makes me think you told your kids the truth about Santa when they were four…
  6. I’d be surprised if the Sox were able to acquire Crochet without giving up one of the Big Four. I think that offer is beatable and probably by a few teams. Of course, sometimes things that shock me do happen. (Shout out to Nick Pivetta.) And the White Sox did take what appeared to be a very light and beatable package for Erick Fedde. Manaea received a QO, about as surprising as Pivetta receiving one. I think that keeps the Sox away. The Sox weren’t bad enough to get a protected first rounder, were they?
  7. That’s one of those deals that works on BTV but might not interest the White Sox relative to other offers…
  8. 3.02 ERA in the first half. 5.12 ERA in the second, and only pitched 38 IP after the break. I’d go very light on the prospect capital…
  9. Pivetta isn’t going to decline.
  10. Until the Red Sox either start spending or - God willing - hire me in some decision-making capacity, it’s the best I can do…
  11. I’m wondering if a 200% raise for Pivetta isn’t a clue that they might be spending this off-season…
  12. As much as I love the Olive Garden comp (and am admittedly jealous that you beat me to it), from you I expected “he serves up more taters than Idaho”…
  13. I think I speak for everyone - something I’m normally hesitant to do but feel confident here - when I say we’d prefer to see the initial tries…
  14. But even if he accepts, the Sox can renegotiate a multi year deal at a lower AAV - maybe 2 years at $35mill or 3 years $46.5mill…
  15. Hey Porcello took one. It just takes one year where everything falls together. That said, if we set the over/under of Cy Young awards for Pivetta at 1, I still take the under…
  16. A $21 mill salary for Nick Pivetta is a de facto No Trade Clause…
  17. No. I was correct in saying Pivetta getting a QO would shock me. I was most definitely shocked. Also I said repeatedly O’Neill was 50/50 to receive one…
  18. Manaea and Severino were equally questionable QO recipients. I wouldn’t be surprised if this meant a multi year deal was in store for Pivetta and the QO was just to keep other teams at bay…
  19. Is 52 pitchers over a two year stretch really a small number to be trailing?
  20. MLBTR has released their Top 50 with predictions from 4 members of their staff. The following names were linked to Boston (and by how many writers) Corbin Burnes (2) Blake Snell (2) Tanner Scott (2) Jeff Hoffman (1) Clay Holmes (1) Nick Pivetta (4) And maybe I missed a couple. Working from memory here…
  21. No QO for O’Neill. But yes for Pivetta…
  22. I wouldn’t decline the chance to offer O’Neil a QO based on his elevated K rates . Nor would I pass due to his declining defense. Now his .693 OPS vs RHP? Thats more of a cause for alarm…
