    Except that one involves spending less money on someone that can potentially improve and the other involves spending more money on someone who is more likely to decline. Even bad early extensions are rarely prohibitive. Kristian Campbell may never be a star (he will be one), but even if he becomes an average player or a good super utility player, that’s how he’s being paid…

    Is there even a problem right now? The Sox have been on a torrid pace for the past 7 weeks. I think some folks got a bit worked up over those two losses to Baltimore. First - only two losses. Second, they did face one of the best pitchers in the AL in one game and then lost the second in extra innings. It’s not like they dropped both games 30-0 and Baltimore pulled all their entire starting lineup in the fourth inning and replaced them with the starting players’ children, most of whom are 6 and under and half of whom are girls, and the Sox were STILL overmatched…

    Offense is only half the game. It might be the more exciting half, but it’s still only half. And Rafaela only comes up 4 times in game. His lack of contributions is minimized by those around him in the lineup…

    Not to mention the Sox could renegotiate the deal at any time if Anthony is disgruntled. But even if he never does, he is going to make $130mill by the time he turns 30. And then hit free agency while still young enough to cash in again….

    You sure? The Sox have lost 60 games this year. Clearly these were all the fault of Rafaela and his slightly-above-league-average bat. Its likely why the Padres traded away Ozzie Smith, knowing full well hit bat would just drag that team down…

    It would reduce the amount available to pay Byron Buxton to sit on the Injured List. When did tire Twins go broke? They sold off everything to reduce overhead and make the team more salable, but that’s not the same as being broke…

    I am not sure if it’s even selling low. His contract still makes him valuable. A small market team especially would love to have him for 7 years at his price tag. He’s only spent a few weeks in AAA this year. I wouldn’t put much stock in his performance either way just yet. I think he’s proven more than the doubts he has created offensively. Hes not a bench player and not a minor leaguer. He has never had a position, which is an issue. It would be nice if he could solve 2b, but he’s more likely to go to 1b…
