This game, fine.
But this year I don’t like him much and he does hinder the team with his bizarre dedication to platoons. So yes he is frustrating me this season…
Pinch runner to get the potential lead run into scoring position while Cora does nothing to move his struggling offense this series, except bench players with favorable match ups…
The problem is the almost complete lack of any hard hit ball. Story actually did hit his double pretty hard, but everything else on this game was lackluster and routine. The White Sox defense isn’t being tested, unless you count their trying to stay awake due to lack of action…
While true, Ron Roenicke certainly wasn’t the problem with the 2020 team. A roster so weak Ryan Weber was the number 3 starter and the big offensive addition that off-season was Jose Peraza were both much larger factors. Connie Mack and Casey Stengel could have been resurrected to lead that team and it was still going to come in last. That the Sox won 24 out of 60 games that year was a pretty disposing result…
Or the Sox could bat Campbell leadoff in from of Devers, Bregman, Abreu, Casas, etc. and bench/rest/(trade?) the sub-.600 OPS that seems to have forgotten how to field filling that role in the lineup now…
And other than the obvious reason of trying to help the Red Sox, why is Cleveland making this deal?
McKenzie only makes $1.9mill in his second arb year. And they just called up 23yo Angel Martínez to play 2b, and behind him they have 2024 #1 overall draft pick Travis Bazzana (and his .974 OPS in AA ball), both potentially blocking Grissom’s best and Cleveland’s worst position.
Cleveland has a year plus to find a better deal. Why are they answering Breslow’s telegram for this one?
Catcher help is on the way as the Sox sign Yasmani Grandal to a minor league deal.
Grandal doesn’t hit like he used to, but he’s still a good defensive catcher according to most metrics.
I like that they’re being proactive here. (Sabol couldn’t throw out the garbage.) But why not just promote Zavala?
And who exactly HASN’T advocated for firing Kennedy at some point? Besides John Henry?
At the rate he spews double talk, it’s actually possible Kennedy has accidentally advocated for firing himself once or twice…
It’s frustrating at times, but thats also the hitter Casas has been since his MLB debut. Probably was in the minors as well, but I never saw him play there…
I agree it’s harder to put a pitch that drills the mascot into orbit, but I do have my doubts that the lessons implemented by Fatse and Lawson say “above all, just swing. Swing hard. Swing fast. Swing at everything, including balls the catcher throws back to the pitcher.”
Some of this is on the hitters…
