  1. Dave Stapleton wasn’t real…
  2. I just hate how this bullpen can’t protect a 2 run lead, but bring ‘em in with a 6 run deficit and they give you 5 shutout innings…
  3. The point was that MLB is the rarity in that the lower level employees do make more money than management. So citing the MLBPA talking point that “if the players don’t get the money, owners do” is not some sort of egregious anomaly. And what owners have to pay out to players will be recouped one way or another. Fans are certainly a source for recouping this expense…
  4. I think you’re getting to worked up in the minutiae and missing the point…
  5. I don’t like the argument “if you don’t give it to the players, the owners get it.” First of all, isnt that essentially what happens in EVERY BUSINESS? I don’t know a single company where the factory workers or lowest level production employees - the folks actually doing the work - get paid more than the CEO. Possibly not even collectively. But more important, ownership is going to get paid regardless of what players make. So do mega contracts drive up ticket prices? I know there are arguments that say they don’t. But let’s get real. They aren’t the primary factor, but on some level, they do enter the equation. Player salaries are a huge expense, and not one owners are willing to overlook, which I base on the fact that owners are extremely wealthy and you don’t get/stay that way by overlooking huge expenses. Safe bet they all have plans to recoup that expense somehow, and it won’t be a government bailout…
  6. That game was made by PCA, whose speed and base running induced multiple Giant infielders into committing errors…
  7. Is the injury risk greater at 1b than 3b? I have no idea. The biggest risk at both is runners. At 1b, they step on your foot or run into you. At third they often slide into you with spikes up, albeit less often. Sure DH is less. But in 2-3 weeks, there’s a good chance a Toro/Gonzalez platoon fails to dazzle, to put it mildly. Having all those players rotate in and out of DH to stay fresh is no different than platooning utility players at 1b. Plus it ignores the real reason Cora “rests” players - to give the bench players occasional action instead of letting them atrophy on the pine. DH is a position. Fill it properly. It’s not for days off for starters any more than the closer role should be for resting starting pitchers…
  8. I don’t know either of Cora or Devers. But if we go by the track records of questionable behavior, Cora far and away is the leader…
  9. Why with another team? Besides Boston right now, what team is scrambling for DH/1b types?
  10. Answer to what? Dalbec should consider switching to pitching at this point. Being DFAd by one of the worst teams in MLB history is not good resume fodder…
  11. I suppose it is possible that Devers was asked and expressed no interest in moving to 1b. So Cora decided to publicly take the blame. That’s one thing. But if Cora himself is making this call, it’s beyond highly questionable…
  12. Will the trade market in early May have better options than Abraham Toro? Right now the best options via trade appear to be Rowdy Tellez, Josh Bell, and LaMonte Wade Jr. The Sox might have to tough out the Toro/Gonzalez plan until mid/late July. Which begs the painfully obvious question - why is Cora averse to putting Devers back in the field? It’s kind of the obvious solution here…
  13. Trade Wilyer Abreu for Tyler Soderstrom. The Athletics have former C/1b/DH Tyler Soderstrom miscast in LF, because Shea Langeliers, Nick Kurtz, and Brent Rooker have taken over the other 3 roles respectively…
  14. They should add Grandal. Sabol couldn’t catch COVID if he licked every door knob in 2020…
  15. Even Sox pitching legend Dom Smith and former All Star Garrett Cooper were part timers…
  16. Better move him to the 15 day IL stat!
  17. Grissom is RHH as well. Why bother platooning? Grandal is at least a switch hitter, albeit one who best part of his game is his glove. Why not Devers at 1b and activate Yoshidato DH?
  18. Maybe Toro is just here to buy time for Devers to get up to speed at 1b?
  19. Dont they have to add Toro?
  20. If it’s a platoon, why would the RHH Romy Gonzalez face RHP? Toro is a switch hitter…
  21. Trade for what? Its still amazing to me how many fans think a player isn’t good enough to start, but is good enough to be a useful trade piece…
  22. Ignoring practical applications and keeping it hypothetical with ONE choice…
