  1. I’d question anyone who claimed to be an ardent fan who always knows what the team wants, and then says they rooted for the team “to lose to improve their draft position.” Draft position? In the MLB draft? Also - this is MLB. Mediocrity quite often does compete for playoff spots…
  2. One thing about wins, strikeouts and ERA is they all ignore the very important Innings Pitched stat. (ERA does use it in the formula, but your ERA doesn’t get better with more IP. In fact, very often the opposite.) A pitcher who can continually pitch and keep himself on the mound is a rare and very useful thing.,.
  3. Yoshida did play one inning in LF last year. Was that because Cora suspected a plague outbreak was imminent? And his first thought was “This is it!! It’s back!! Time for evasive action! Get Yoshida in the outfield NOW!!!” Maybe Cora got Yoshida out there in time and curtailed the plague. Maybe it was a false alarm. We may never know. But we are all still safe…
  4. No one asked you to be among them. But not everything baseball fan is a fan for the same reason. And expecting others to curtail their viewing practices to meet your needs is flat out wrong. Its something I expect from that Diehard Star Wars Nerd crowd my profession is loaded with who tell me I’m wrong for liking A Solo Story because “it wasn’t part of the original saga and just something Hollywood made for money.” Ok. I still found it entertaining. And I’m not wrong for liking it…
  5. No. YOUR entertainment needs are not being met. The people actually paying money to go to games don’t seem to mind as much. That’s why they’re there…
  6. There is and it’s been done. That’s exactly what WAR is - the better way. It’s not perfect and will probably be replaced by something even more involved. But in its present state, it’s better than wins and ERA…
  7. And sometimes the guys with more wins just play on better teams. In 2005, Bartolo Colon had a 21-8 W-L record and used it to win the Cy Young Award. Why? Johan Santana beat him in every single pitching star except wins. Better ERA, better WHIP, better K/9, better BB/9. Basically was a better pitcher. But he was only 16-7. A big factor there is Santana pitched for a Twins team that simply wasn’t very good, finishing 83-79. While Colon won more games for the 95-67 Angels. So was Colon really the better pitcher in 2005? Or did he just pitch for a better team?
  8. Yeah it’s appalling that these fans refuse to put aside their entertainment needs because the unrealistic expectations of others are not being met. f***ing selfish…
  9. Reportedly they’re not on the same page and maybe that’s why Bregman hasn’t been signed…
  10. The problem with signing Bregman is that Breslow can see him as a third baseman until the end of time, but Cora puts the lineup together. So if Cora want him at 2b, he’s playing 2b…
  11. Narvaez is on the 40 man roster. Zavala is not..,
  12. The right pitcher getting the win being correct “most of the time” isn’t real useful considering most pitchers get less than 10 wins per year. A century ago, when the starting pitcher threw all 9 innings, pitching wins were more useful. But the advent and growing use of bullpens has made them a useless evaluation tool. Especially since they did nothing to tell you how good relief pitchers were, which is why ERA was devised in the first place. fWAR and bWAR are good ones today, whether or not you know how to calculate them. And someday, they’ll be replaced, just like VORP and WARP and Win Shares all were.
  13. And Castiglione was in the booth even back then…
  14. Call with Dark Side of the Moon…
  15. I raise questions daily…
  16. Hoping they get a starting catcher, not a backup…
  17. I like Profar as a LF. He did crush LHP last year to the tune of a .865 OPS (I think). He occasionally plays a recent LF and has the ability to get on base. And only wants a 3 year deal. But if the Sox just want to put Anthony in LF and get a platoon partner for Abreu, Ramon Laureano is a good plan. I don’t like the free agent catchers since Jansen and Kelly both signed. Sox NEED a good defensive catcher…
  18. Or Kyle Finnegan. Who non-tenders an All Star?!?
  19. Then why get either?
  20. Who’s Next?!!!
  21. Yes but it’s like skipping the earlier, more productive years of Bregman and fast forwarding right to y he decline…
  22. f*** Arenado. He doesn’t make sense unless the Sox can unload Yoshida. And still not much even then, as his low -.700s OPS could probably also be replaced by Grissom. Bregman makes more sense except that Cora sees him as a 2b solution for some reason. I still think Abreu gets moved before April. Hopefully a good defensive catcher is part of the return. Pitt certainly could use Abreu and has catchers to spare, but unless they renew their lust for Henry Davis, I don’t see them sending Boston help behind the dish. Joey Bart doesn’t float anyone’s boat.
  23. Backup plan in case Burnes didn’t work out
  24. I do not think Meidroth was irreplaceable…
