  1. The real delay is that Martinez doesn't want the Sox. Martinez had said he doesn't want to DH. Dombrowski has said he wants to sign Martinez as a DH. Big issue here. Martinez is certainly well aware the Sox have a loaded outfield. The obvious resolution is to deal am outfielder to make room, likely Bradley But the Sox really can't deal Bradley until they sign Martinez, because he still might sign elsewhere. And, let's face it, it gives way too much leverage to Boras. The Puig deal wouldn't solve anything, which may have also factored into why it was rejected so quickly. Dealing Bradley for another outfielder just changes the names in the same logjam. .. So hence the impasse. ..
  2. It's nice to see Dombrowski has the "sign a minor league catcher" thing mastered. How about a minor league deal for a pitcher or two? This team is one arm injury away from relying on Jalen Beeks....
  3. Don't count out the Giants, who were prepared to spend $290mill on Giancarlo Stanton and might currently have the worst outfield in MLB history. Also the Padres dodged a bullet with Hosmer and can spend that allotment of cash elsewhere. ..
  4. The problem is at that price, who else is in the market willing to go 6 or 7 years? Steve Phillips on MLB Network seems to think the market is Boston alone....
  5. Eh. When I used to post at ESPN using this same moniker, one of the most oft-recurring jokes was to credit false MLB rumors to http://www.petergammons.org
  6. Of course no mention was made of what was offered for Swihart. As I would guess many GMs viewed him as a high ceiling flier, I doubt any of the offers were all that eye-popping...
  7. I'm probably one of the bigger JD Martinez supporters here (which was not true at the beginning of the off-season) and this process is truly frustrating. The market offers very little in the way of alternatives, but right now if the Sox want to make a lesser "splash" with an eye on the next market, Mike Moustakas might be the biggest bargain available based on the amount of buzz about him. (Although signing Moreland does make this more difficult. )
  8. MLB ready prospects? Like the ones they got for Stanton?
  9. Ummm... no. I clicked to reply and make the joke about how there is no activity this off-season...
  10. Whats in that deal for Miami? More years of the lesser player?
  11. Smaller ones are easier to unload however. If the Sox made every player available for trade and stated they will pay nothing, do you think they get more calls on Hanley, Porcello or Price?
  12. Maybe, but it's also possible Boras doesn't lower the price until bidders start dropping out. So the Sox might be in the unenviable position of holding the price high...
  13. I knew this thread was fraudulent when I saw the word "signs"...
  14. I think the Marlins would just assume have Prado than pay all of those deals. Realmuto to will get them a haul and the Sox don't need a catcher. But I wonder what the price might be for Dan Straily and Derek Dietrich...
  15. I'm not even certain Dombrowski is still alive. There haven't been that many signs of life this off-season. And bringing Mike Olt on board doesn't count
  16. So I take it you actually know all the words to the Canadian national anthem and not just up to "all thy sons' command" like the rest of us who got bored at that part of hockey games?
  17. Absolutely his dad is a big distraction. Just like how so many teams are shying away from Josh Donaldson. Do you really think his dad is an issue? Josh Hamilton got multiple chances and his issue wad HIM, not his dad. Ever hear of Willie Wilson, Willie Aikens, Steve Howe, Darryl Strawberry, Tim Raines? Like it or not, talent is all matters And if Groome can pitch, that's all that matters as well....
  18. Very true. I have issues with any nation that puts other country's leaders on their money...
  19. What about Norwegians? Can we still make sweeping generalizations about them?
  20. And Apple watches..
  21. Duquette wouldn't trade Bradley for Machado if you held his whole family at gunpoint. But other than that, I do think it is a good plan...
  22. It is going to have to change soon. Pitchers and catchers report in six weeks. ..
  23. If the Sox made that deal, Betts likely goes to CF and Puig, with his outstanding arm goes to RF...
  24. Machado creates issues with other teams. Puig creates issues with his own manager...
  25. True, but the NL East and AL Central have less depth. And Houston should still be an easy favorite in the AL West.
