  1. He won't. We do all know this or should. He took 5 years to hit AAA pitching. Do you really think MLB is suddenly going to become easy for him? And while he did have some success his last time in MLB, it was carried by a very lucky BABIP and his xBABIP had him pegged as closer to a .218 hitter. He won't hit the s*** out of anything. Not on Fenway at least...
  2. I keep trying to forget about Brentz. I know a lot of people want him to get a shot. But if Bradley goes down for 3 weeks, and he is the most likely outfielder to go down historically, then the Sox have to re-arrange the outfield to accommodate Brentz. And by the time those 3 weeks are up, I wonder how many fans will still be glad that Brentz finally got a shot....
  3. Exactly. Holt, Swihart, Leon and Marrero. No room for Nunuz here..
  4. 3 or 4 more atarting pitchers. Any team that enters the season without knowing whobtheir 7-10 starters are is fooling themselves...
  5. Certainly any team looking at defense would be hesitant. But the market for Martinez may not be as big as Boras likes. I've only heard 4 linked to him, and I usually find that the rumors double the actual number of interested teams. So are there only 2 teams in on Martinez?
  6. Maybe. It would be easier if he didn't have legitimate health concerns, could field, and was cheaper. Really he should have been traded back after he was as all star and had value. Now at best he's a throw-in whose inclusion in a trade gets the Sox nothing but salary relief, which, if they wanted, they could have gotten more easily by simply non-tendering him...
  7. At the end of the day, how many "super sub" players do you think the Sox are going to commit multiple millions of dollars to? I think offering Holt arbitration may have done more to close the door on Nunez than many Sox fans want to believe. ..
  8. Boras will listen to every offer. But JD's stated to desire to not DH might put the Sox lower on his list or it might mean the Sox need to pay more money to sign him. ..
  9. I hope the Sox don't return Betts to 2b. It's been too many years since he played the position and I'd hate to see him get injured in a takeout slide...
  10. Not sure he'd get that from Boston either. For some reason DD has already committed $2mill-ish to Brock Holt to be some sort of all-purpose Swiss army knife player...
  11. And there is always a chsnce Stanton opts out. He'll be younger when he opts out than Cabrera was when he signed that deal....
  12. Id be shocked, given they are trying to keep payroll low and have long term players that would prevent him from starting. He'll likely sign with the Giants or Angels...
  13. There's a good chance he prioritizes starting roles when mulling offers...
  14. I could see a couple moves being dependent on Martinez. But DD hasn't signed a single pitcher to a minor league deal or tried to upgrade over Brentz and Hernandez. He hasn't done a thing yet beyond DEFacing Owens and d ignoring Quiroz. And I wondered if Owens was DFAd to clear a spot in the Rule 5 draft. But nope. He passed on that too...
  15. As bad a job as Ben did saddling Boston with the contracts of Ramirez and Sandoval, at least he did ms mage to unload Gonzalez and Crawford, otherwise both of them would still br being paid by Boston....
  16. Neither of those contracts were for 28yo reigning MVPs who were signed to show fans the team was serious about baseball as a show of good faith. Do you think Cabrerea's contract represents current market value for a 35yo 1b?
  17. Its December 16. The season ended over 10 weeks ago. At this point, I'm opening up to the idea of an overpay because at least it would mean Dombrowski made a move!!! I don't get his plan. "Money and the luxury tax are not obstacles this year." So why did you settle on Brentz and Hernandez again?
  18. So the best way was to trade away the contract that was a show of good faith to the fans? The fans who buy tickets and watch local broadcasts? It was like saying "Hey Marlins fans? Remember when we gutted this team before but we wanted to show you we were serious about baseball so we gave Stanton that megacontract? Well... f*** you." That franchise will be out of Florida within 3 years. Any fans they have left visiting fans....
  19. And I have decreasing confidence in Marco Hernandez, whose maximum batted ball distance fell into the bottom five of all major leaguers with 40 or more plate appearances. That is especially disheartening when you realize how many pitchers get 40 or more plate appearances. ...
  20. Maybe. But we haven't seen Bogaerts at 3B since 2013. I'm all about making as few re-arrangements as possible...
  21. JD is likely going to the OF. Benintendi would play either RF or CF. If the idea is to have a backup for those player, Duda isn't going to do it. The Sox need someone who can play the OF. Fortuantely, we have AAARP member Bryce Brentz to do that job!! Maybe the Sox should consider a reserve OF with some batting skills, and not Lucas Duda. Sure it can be someone capable of handling 1b (Jay Bruce? John Jaso?) Finding someone who can also play CF makes it difficult, although one guy with surprising power and elite CF defensive skills who is on no one's radar and would make an excellent backup OF who could in a pinch serve as a part time DH option is Franklin "Death to Flying Things" Gutierrez...
  22. There's no real competive market for any 3B beyond Moustakas. Even the creative solution (Cozart) is off the table. Teams looking for a 1B have to decide between mulitple options and price ranges. Teams looking for a 3B have to decide how close to Moutakas' agent's demands do they want to come?
  23. The simpler re-arrangement is just to bump Bogaerts directly to 1B. It's not as if he likes 3B anyway.
  24. His numbers vs RHP were held back by a shoulder injury. If he's healthy, let him hit.
  25. Moustakas will sign long before all of those guys.
