  1. As he doesn’t have a concussion, there isn’t a shorter term DL to put him on. And maybe the Mets need another starter in the meantime...
  2. Improvement does take time. He’s only been in MLB for one full season...
  3. But then if Swihart gets hurt while playing 3b, it does put the Sox in a potentially precarious position. There is a reason teams rarely pinch hit for even the weakest hitting of catchers...
  4. Santiago Casilla, former Oakland and San Francisco closer who was recently DFA’d for poor performance, possibly due to age and/or nagging injuries...
  5. Tampa qualifies as a buyer by this logic, but they have already done some selling, trading Colome and Span...
  6. Only typed it once, and even then as a deliberate response to SoxHop. But beyond that - never!! I can’t stand it when my 11 year old responds to me with that...
  7. The original family name was Oldirtybastardo...
  8. That’s ok. I’m actually embarrassed that I did know the Sox signed him...
  9. Except that he probably doesn’t want to do that. The Ryan Dempster/Gil Meche types who retire mid-contract and forego the remaining money are indeed the minority, regardless of the post-playing opportunities. And we as fans shouldn’t expect them to do so, regardless of how obvious the need to retire is. We demand a high level of competitiveness and intensity from players and then, when their play no longer suits us, expect them to suddenly dial back? Pedroia will be here for a few more years. The Sox might be wise to keep depth around him. And might be wiser to not rely on Marco Hernandez for that depth...,
  10. You have to do what other teams did - sign borderline pitchers to MiLB contracts. I know some fans think of this as “dumpster diving” and they prefer only adding quality veterans or letting prospects pitch. But once you have 5 quality veterans, it’s near impossible to add one more for depth. And using minor leaguers is fine, but you do have more options if you have more depth...
  11. Meh. Oh you knew someone was going to say it...
  12. Phillips cannot be brought up in September until he is added to the 40-man roster first. Someone has to go from that to make room for him too. ..
  13. When it comes to inspirational movie speeches, no one will ever top Bluto Blutarski. “Was it over when the ...Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?” Which is why Bluto would be my coach...
  14. And it took FOREVER...
  15. Oddly enough, one movie that gave some really good insight into coaching and managing was "Little Big League," which seemed like such a stupid idea for a movie, and yet it worked on many levels. Very underrated baseball movie...
  16. Cl;int Eastwood, Amy Adams and baseball? That is a formula for cinematic perfection to me. So yes, I saw it but was disappointed. Although I agree it was a cute and predictable movie. It felt like "The Phemon" from the scouts point of view...
  17. I think their brashness dealt more with my constant repetitiveness and singular approach. Hey I'm not saying I didn't deserve it...
  18. Not true. It makes the defense worse...
  19. Wasn't it "Trouble with the Curve"?
  20. "The Gauntlet" was unimpressive. But then that can be said about anything with Sondra Locke in it...
  21. Fear and Loathing on the Basepaths
  22. Nicely done, Murdock. And on an unrelated side note, I think Bill Laimbeer needs to be considered for this Cool Guy list (Basketball player division). I hated him as a player, too. But then I learned he played a Sleastack in the original "Land of the Lost" TV show back when he was still in high school. I can't overlook that awesomeness anymore. And yes, I think Laimbeer as a sleastack could whoop Jabbar and throw him in that smoky pit, for whatever was in there to do whatever it did....
  23. I voted for Gary Johnson. And I did not want him for President, either. (But his running mate was Bill Weld, whom I did like.)...
  24. I preached that all February and March. It only matters if Dombrowski listens, not you people. (Many of whom told me to please stop, only less politely. And to be fair, it's not like any of you could do anything about it.)...
  25. Oh please. If Jabbar was so tough, his next movie would not have been Airplane!..
