  1. This thread needs a new title. considering how "hot" the stove has been around the league. Yesterday, the Dodgers, Royals and White Sox swapped 6 uniforms filled with mediocrity 113 people commented about it on MLBTR. 40 days until pitchers and catchers report...
  2. I read plenty of stories that conflicted with the idea that Ben wanted him to start.
  3. Ahh.. capitalism.
  4. Well, maybe you're doing better than Bean Stringfellow...
  5. That is the name of an actual former Atlanta Braves minor leaguer turned baseball agent....
  6. Not to mention, Boras is like 70 and could easily retire soon. And when he does, someone else will take over as the "game's greediest agent." And I am so so hoping - and solely because he has the most awesome name ever - that that agent is Bean Stringfellow...
  7. I believe there was a reference to Boras taking advantage of "ethical owners". I should probably have replied to it, to keep that part included...
  8. Anyone who thinks agents are unethical and owners are the ethical party needs to familiarize themselves with the "reserve clause" and possibly realize the one and only reason the Colorado Rockies, Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Rays even exist. Hint: it had nothing to do with exploring new markets or expanding the game..
  9. Damon also has no place to play in Boston. He wasn't very good in CF anymore. He wasn't going to supplant Manny in LF or Ortiz at DH. And he couldn't play RF because he threw like a right-handed thrower who was trying to use his left arm...
  10. Chris Sale? To me, it looked like the primary reason the White Sox unloaded this guy was the problems he was creating (blasting the front office over the Adam LaRoche debacle, destroying the entire team's promotional throw back jerseys right before a game). Once the White Sox dealt Sale, they knew it ruined their chances to win and it set off the fire sale. But before all that, they had a very, very good team and could have easily competed for a title...
  11. Starting rotations are like poker hands; you can never have too many aces. Was Sale a luxury? Or a creative way of replacing the void left by Papi?
  12. When Jay Bruce declared from the draft from high school, he selected Scott Boras to be his agent. He was told by several scouts that because of this, many teams would not select him. Bruce promptly switched agents. Kenny Williams also refused to deal with Scott Boras for a long time, even going so far as to trade away several Boras clients already on his roster...
  13. Was that really Boras being unethical? Our Damon deciding the Yankee offer was the one he wanted to accept? I can't imagine Boras not giving every interested party one final chance to bid. ..
  14. Boras might not communicate thr specific teams but he certainly lets bidding parties no where they need to be.
  15. The writers gave Pedroia another label in 2008 - MVP...
  16. He only does if he has a terrific season and thinks he can get more years or if he just wants out of Boston. Odds are he stays...
  17. To be fair, we also typically bat in more innings in road games, where the Sox always come up in the ninth. As opposed to home games where the Sox only did if they were tied or trailing....
  18. The Green Monster was the main reason I always felt Matt Kemp was a horrible fit for the Sox, even in his heyday. He rips powerful line drives that never looked like they would clear the monster. I think he would have set the tram record for wall ball singles, which isn't a bad thing but also not why the Sox would have acquired him....
  19. All of this is only true if Machado finishes 2018 with the Orioles or whatever team acquires him before the season starts. If the extremely likely situation where no team meets Baltimore's pre-season demands are not meet and he isn't traded happens, he probably gets dealt in July and there will be no qualifying offer. The biggest flaw in the QO system is the lack of compensation for teams that lose free agents, which will make Baltimore a motivated seller at the deadline. ..
  20. I would disagree. The opt out clause helps teams immensely. I'd rather see Price give the Sox three good, well-paid years and then move on rather than aging poorly and spending his last year or two as a financial sinkhole that limits the Sox from making moves and retaining younger players. Any deal over 5 years for a player 30 or over without an opt-out clause is a huge mistake, IMO.
  21. Tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick.... tick....
  22. Unless Price opts out, Hanley's option fails to vest, or they deal Porcello. Two of those 3 should do it. But this is all hypothetical anyway...
  23. Similar to the contract Adrian Beltre received from the Red Sox, but only for one year with one option. The issue might be getting the player to sign. Someone like Harper might want the longer deal in case of injury, and he might not want to be hurt and making a paltry $1mill.
  24. I think he's thinking about Duffy as the bullpen arm...
  25. I don't think Duffy is a the trade target to pitch in the pen. This team doesn't need more left handed starters. But I do like Duffy as a pitcher. I'm all lso not wild about Benintendi add a center fielder and prefer either Bradley or Betts over him out there. But I do wonder how adamant JD Martinez is about not wanting to DH. Is this a serious preference or just a negotiating ploy? I will say, if the rumors of wanting more years are accurate, not wanting to DH would be a very, very bad negotiating tactic...
