  1. Based on what? Because that is how you want it to play out? The only limiting factor will be the size of the contract, which might take out a few teams. But all it takes is one team with a larger wallet and his agent will tell him to go elsewhere...
  2. Wrong wrong wrong. The Sox do need the farm to produce worker bees to allow the stars to be affordable. Yes you can get Mitch Moreland plenty of way. But none of them get you a minimum wage Mitch Moreland if that is all that the budget allows. Large market or not, there is a limit to John Henry's spending...
  3. He can probably pitch an inning or two as well, but I really don't want to see that one at all...
  4. Pearce at 2B accomplishes the same thing. And of the two, Pearce has more MLB innings at 2B and (I find this part surprising and probably inaccurate with larger sample sizes), the better UZR/150 numbers at 2B...
  5. Sure they are. They are there to produce trade fodder and minimum wage players for the big club. Despite the Sox financial resources, they will need the latter once some of the curretly cheap players start making real money (if they stay). And if any of the Killer B's start leaving, then what? The Sox lack prospects to replace them or trade for someone who can. Of course, that is the future a couple seasons down the road. Right now, there is an exciting season happening in front of us. But only we as fans get to look at it that way; Dombrowski as GM/President of Baseball Ops should not. He should be thinking about 2019 and 2020 to some extent...
  6. Powmeranz looked good in his last start. But that was on 6 days rest. That's not a luxury he will be getting the remainder of the season...
  7. It's especially tough - but not impossible - with the higher draft picks in the first round...
  8. It's a bit early to write off anyone he traded. He did at least get good players for them. But I also wouldn't assume the pipeline will keep producing another set of Betts, Benintendi, Bogaerts, etc. It's not a given that we will keep having good prospects...
  9. The problem is people are getting impatient waiting for Pomeranz to be on game, and he may not be ever on game this year if he is having too many physical issues. His last start was certainly more encouraging, but as a starter this year Pomeranz has a 6.56ERA and a 1.80 WHIP in 10 starts covering 46.2 IP. Conversely as a starter, Johnson has a 2.57 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP in 7 starts covering 35IP. Neither is giving much in the way of IP/start, but Johnson has been better to date in the role...
  10. The 2003 Tigers challenged that with 119 losses. Guess who their GM was. If the Sox can win 110 games, I think it’s a safe bet Dombrowski would be the only GM in MLB history to put together teams that won 110 games and lost 110 games...
  11. 1 hour and 15 minutes to the non-waiver deadline. No Red Sox buzz.
  12. ...which makes for an interesting dilemma this offseason, since one of the catchers is likely to be moved...
  13. This is Pomeranz’ option year, right? I doubt it happens, but if he can’t turn it around, he could be released. It’s not like he’s getting a qualifying offer. Personally I think he needs to go to the pen and pitch shorter outings and not worry about pacing himself...
  14. Isn’t he on the 60 day DL? If so, he isn’t taking up roster space...
  15. I get that. It was more about pointing out the pen is good, and isn’t all Kimbrel. On the other hand, if Dombrowski gets a bullpen arm, I doubt I’ll complain since we really have no untouchables left on the farm at this point. It could be pointed out Dombrowski has acquired a bullpen arm. The acquisition of Eovaldi has pushed Johnson to the pen. I expect at some point Johnson and Pomeranz might change roles, but this still applies..,
  16. Buttrey has been in the system a few years and been bypassed by other arms who have actually been released. I don’t think Dombrowski valued him that much...
  17. Before last night’s marathon, the Sox bullpen was tied for fourth in MLB with Houston in fWAR, trailing only the Yankees, Padres, and Brewers. I can understand that improving isn’t a bad idea, but why do people think this bullpen is so hopeless?
  18. Usually you can tell a trade is equal if both sides think they got ripped off as well...
  19. Do we really have a choice?
  20. Paulino is the pitching version of Chavis. This actually was a toppable offer for the Sox, but we can let it go since we now know he was working on another deal at the time...
  21. If it’s an avulsion, it becomes a narrowed stress concentrator, which does make a fracture more likely if he comes back too soon...
  22. I can’t do the managerial mistake argument. Too many of those with a certain someone over on free forums in which he would acknowledge that the manager knew the situation better, but Farrell was still wrong just because. I think the straw that broke my back was his insistence that Farrell brought in the wrong reliever and should have used Barnes. Even after Farrell had a press conference saying Barnes was not available, this poster called Farrell out and insisted Barnes was available...
  23. Cooler than Aaron Hicks?
  24. I have no idea what I would have done because I don’t know what kind of trade offers Cherington and Dombrowski have received in the past 5 years...
