Machado has spent his entire career in Baltimore. Chicago and Philly are both mega-markets compared to that. Not to mention, he probably owns a house and Baltimore is probably within commuting distance from his house. Know what else might be within commuting distance from that house? Philadelphia. And Chicago didn’t take on Yonder Alonso’s entire contract because of his baseball skills. Not when Justin Bour was practically free. There is a definite plan to exploit that connection. Sure the money will need to be there first. But Yonder is a good bet for a tie breaker...
