  1. Eh. They could simply bench him. The guy makes Jonny Gomes/Chris Young money...
  2. I don't. I think he is Henry Owens 2.0, with the new "less hype" feature.
  3. My favorite baserunning blunder was Clay Buchholz trying to score from second on a double and getting thrown out. Or (going back a bit here), Allen Trammell getting thrown out going to second base on a successful hit-and-run single to right field by Chet Lemon. (Credit to one Marty Barrett for fooling Trammell into running back to first.)
  4. And that he just stupid there in man's land on that triple play
  5. If baserunning miscues were grounds for DFA, Moreland himself might be the first one out the door. Starting with that boneheaded triple play in Baltimore and up through his single off the center field wall against the White Sox, Moreland has shown a pretty fair lack of awareness on the bases. It was the option and very likely the option alone. ..
  6. Teams that stand pat always get ripped by the media for doing so. And this means many fans will believe the team is wrong for doing nothing. "What kind of message does this send to the players? That the FO thinks they're good enough and don't need any help? Yeah right!!"
  7. That doesn't mean they shouldn't...
  8. So.. shouldn't any GM you're hoping to deal him to for bullpen help feel the same way? Bear in mind, there is no next year for a GM in a trade here...
  9. Maybe move Pomeranz to the bullpen?
  10. Jalen Beeks, Blake Swihart and the rights to "Sweet Caroline", of course. What else would you expect?
  11. And I don't think Difo represents much value...
  12. Asdrubel Cabrera has a .864 OPS vs LHP in that same timeframe. He makes $8.2mill this year, which should be under $4mill at the deadline, and is on the books for $10.2mill for next year (including the buyout). The Mets are going nowhere fast. This makes him an upgrade over Nunez and his .647 OPS vs LHP...
  13. Which is one of two problems with these "sell the future for the present" team philosophies. The other is thst eventually the future will get here. There is no way any GM can guarantee success. The best he can do is influence his team towards or against it...
  14. Maybe a deal of Blake Swihart for Wilmer Difo? Both players are 26 with plenty of service time left. The Nationals are getting limited production from their catching situation and have Danny Murphy back off the DL. The Sox are getting limited help from Nunez at 2b and Holt can't back up everyone at once.
  15. Theoretically there is. But it isn't going to happen...
  16. .. and 150 points less than Hanley...
  17. The correct move might have been to trade Swihart in March. At some point, the roster spot he occupies will be more valuable than he is...
  18. It's very possible. OTOH, if you lose a 1B/DH to injury or suspension or whatever, he is practically free to give a tryout to.
  19. If you were an O's fan, you would not have sundaes...
  20. But they are concerned about the luxury tax. .
  21. They have a decent foundation of position players - Betts, Benintendi, Bradley, Devers, Vazquez - but beyond them, what else do they have that will still he here in 3 years? Price will be older than and very likely less effetive. ERod is nice to have and might be special someday. But when it comes to filling those other holes, they don't have much. Especially pitching...
  22. Hey!! That's Kevin's kid you're trashing
  23. I think the fans do a better job picking All Stars than the coaches and players do picking Gold Gloves..
  24. Typically feels like that ate from the other team's media deciDing they need all of the best rebuild options for their best player. While JD Martinez went for squat last year, I don't expect Machado to be foo cheap. But I also Don't think he is going to bankrupt anyone. Unless the acquiring team is as well in the farm add Boston. I suppose that is the one bright side to having a depleted farm; we have no untouchable prospects to worry about losing. ...
