  1. I think a lot of teams are holding off moves until after the Rule 5 draft...
  2. Or suffer through a diet of Johnny cakes and coffee milk...
  3. So you played the game the way it should be played...
  4. If not for a passed ball and a ground ball, Dave Henderson would be a bigger Sox legend than Dave Roberts...
  5. No Official Bill Buckner Croquet Set?
  6. And therein lies the problem. Robertson wants his wife to be happy for 3 years. Dombrowski only wants her happy for two...
  7. That old thread was for venting frustration, and it showed. I’m hoping for more baseball-oriented discussion from the least frustrated fan base in MLB right now...
  8. First off, I think the chances of the Sox actually trading Bradley - or any starter - are only slightly better than the chances of the Sox relocating Fenway Park to the moon. Trades can really shake up a team, and this is a team best not shaken right now. But message boards do need some sort of discussion. And I’m bored right now. So just for the heck of it, if the Sox made Bradley and his 2 years available for a starting pitcher, who do you suppose they could get. Let’s keep it as realistic as our biased little minds can and not say things like “I’d only trade Bradley for Scherzer or deGrom” type stuff. What do you suppose Bradley would actually be worth to another team?
  9. But it isn’t 70 IP of Diaz. It’s probably closer to 250 IP. He’s under control for 4 years, something that shouldn’t be ignored. The Mets may or may be competitive in 2019. But if they can right the ship by 2021 or 2022, will they be better off with Diaz or Robertson?
  10. It’s actually a fairly common Indian (as in India) name, and it’s pronounced “shi THEED”. I’m not joking...
  11. Actually cheaper teams do still compete. Washington spent a ton and missed the postseason, but Oakland rose theirvshoestring budget into October, just like Minnesota did the year before. Tampa managed a 90 win season without spending...n
  12. Net positive short term. Long term, they will all likely even out, which is the entire point of the trading...
  13. All the more reason he’d like to be on the Sox. Robertson is certainly a good option at closer. I’m surprised DD won’t go 3 years. But he might know something about Robertson I don’t know. (Might? Yeah right. He knows plenty of things about Robertson I don’t know.) Or maybe Robertson isn’t his guy or is his Plan B and he’s posturing for now until Plan A makes a decision...
  14. George King per MLBTR
  15. ... apparently is a Rhode Island native who wants to pitch in the Northeast and is willing to accept 3 years. Dombrowski reportedly won’t go beyond two years for Robertson. This is a very rare instance where Dombrowski is more conservative than me. Either this means he knows something about Robertson that makes him shy away, or, this might be a fairly disturbing new trend in our formerly free-spending GM...
  16. Yes you made that point previously when you said Varitek put in about 45 pounds...
  17. You know, maybe 15 years from now you’ll be answering that same question by saying “Of course Mookie is the best ever! Next to him, Stan Musial looked like a garden gnome out there!!”
  18. I take it your looking st RF defense only. Otherwise, Clemente over Ruth, Aaron and Musial seems questionable to me...
  19. To be fair, that’s actually short for Abcdefghij. It’s a traditional first name in the Klmnopqrstuvwxyz family...
  20. There is a big difference between doing nothing and signing a 4 year deal worth $60mill for a pitcher whose had a fairly mediocre career and two Tommy John surgeries just because he was good for 22 innings in the postseason...
  21. One year for Christmas, I received Ed Jurak. Thankfully he came wth a gift receipt...
  22. I’m not really on board with Eovaldi either. I’m starting to think pulling Pomeranz out of the discount bin might have the most merit...
  23. Or simply because the Sox have $15mill less to spend. And the idea that Eovaldi is going to replace Porcello is ridiculous. Eovaldi has thrown like 236 IP in the last 3 years combined. Porcello threw 191 IP last year alone...
  24. I don’t buy this. Titles are a team effort. At some point, you’re saying “Tek was a better catcher because he was teammates with Manny and Ortiz.”
  25. The Athletics added a player named Skye Bolt to their 40 man roster today...
