  1. Sliders and kids throwing too hard too early. Lucas Giolito was throwing 100mph in high school. I can promise you he didn’t need that kind of heat to get high school hitters out. And predictably he had TJ before he graduated. But it worked for him. He got drafted early and paid a serious upfront bonus, probably over slot. And also probably severely shortened his career and increased his likelihood for having his second TJ before he turns 25...
  2. Wow. Their Champagne Number has officially reached zero...
  3. He will. But he will keep a bat burning in the window for you...
  4. Let’s make it religious instead and call it a Divine Number. Or do we go all scientific and call it an Atomic Number?
  5. LeMahieu? Pass. I’ll take my chances with Pedroia, Holt, Nunez and Hernandez. I don’t see why a fifth second baseman is needed. I could see the Sox pursuing Yasmani Grandal or Wilson Ramos...
  6. I have to think most MLB players don’t get that far without the ability to handle pressure. And it’s entirely possible the situations fans view as high pressure are not the ones the players view as high pressure...
  7. I don’t think that invalidates my point...
  8. I can think of 124 million reasons Price wants to stay and none have anything to do with a ring...
  9. One thing is it puts the position near the top of Dombrowski’s offseason “To Do” list...
  10. My hope is Martinez decides free agency was such a collassal disappointment last time, he decides to postpone it for as long as possible...
  11. Kyrie Irving, too. One might think Kyrie Irving could grasp the concept of rotation. But apparently he can explain where night comes from another way (sarcasm)...
  12. You let Sale and Porcello walk. Nunez, too. Extend Bogaerts. Give raises to Betts and Benintendi. And hope Martinez doesn’t opt out. But be ready in case he does...
  13. And that may not be a skill the Sox should be dropping $30mill per season on from, say, ages 31 through 36...
  14. I’d rather spend free agent dollars on a closer than an elite starting pitcher. Closers typically accept shorter deals..
  15. Most big money free agents are cautionary tales...
  16. Well then rescind that. If that’s the case, Lindor is the man. He’s easily a top 5 MVP candidate...
  17. Let Kimbrel and Sale (after 2019) walk. It starts there. Both of them likely have their most expensive and least effective days left...
  18. And that something is that he is going to want to get paid for until well after it’s gone, limiting the Sox ability to retain the Killer B’s...
  19. Let him get it elsewhere
  20. Pushing the strawman argument? It's not like Kelly and Kimbrel are the only two options available. What about Brasier? He has been worth 0.7 fWAR in only 28IP, which is essentially the same pace as Kimbrel, who has been worth 1.4 fWAR in 58IP. In Brasier's very limited career, he has a 1.69ERA and 0.94 WHIP...
  21. Again, there are cases for Seager and Correia. It's a pretty loaded position.
  22. Even the setup guys were pulling down $7-8mill this past offseason. Imagine, you could only get 3 set up guys for the cost of JD Martinez...
  23. Ever met a professional football player? Not to get too removed from this anecdote, but I had a friend who knew a Falcons' backup QB who told him "Michael Vick is the dumbest human being I have ever met."
  24. Did Canseco name him? Not that that constitutes proof, but...
  25. Magic Number over Houston for home field is 9. Also an important number...
