  1. I think it's pretty bland compared to other systems. And since Groome hasn't pitched, the Sox might break or tie last year's record for fewest top 100 prospects in team history. The fact that Groome has only 62 unimpressive IP in 3 years and still makes the top 5 on everyone's list of Sox prospects should speak volumes about this system...
  2. Dombrowski has said he is prepsred to roll out Barnes or Brasier as the closer. But I expect this is to minimize the salivating from the agents of Cody Allen, Dave Robertson, and Zach Britton. These three probably top his list of most likely targets, although he could certainly also go the trade route again...
  3. THere is a big difference between being a longshot and having "virtually no chance" to win. Especially at the odds Vegas gives...
  4. But that doesn’t mean a team from a “weak” division can’t win the World Series. It seems like the weakest division most years is the AL Central. But they have produced 2 WS champs in the past 18 years. A normal distribution has them producing 3 in that time...
  5. Hockey bores me because they keep trying to soften the final outcomes for games and make everyone happy. First they had ties. They were necessary because it’s a low scoring game. But fans HATE ties. Then they added overtime. But players hate overtime because they have to get beat up more, don’t get paid, and risk losing a point they already earned. And, a lot of times overtime ended in ties. And fans HATE ties. So then they threw shootouts at the end of overtime, because who doesn’t like a gimmicky way to end a game? Then they had to add shout losses to the teams record, because the team already had this game end in a tie twice and didn’t deserve to lose the point they earned twice. Now they have some sort oof 3 on 3 overtime? And if that ends in a tie I think the players just play Sorry! to determine the winner. And the losing team gets a point for the “Sorry! loss” that appears in their record. Just bring back the f***ing tie. (Did I mention fans HATE ties?)
  6. When you look at it that way, of course it is all randomness. You’re judging everything based upon maybe three weeks of baseball spread it over the better part of 20 years. There’s no commonality at all...
  7. I’m in the opposite camp. I bet a lot of these guys are a lot more demanding than we realize, but no one cares because they want them to be likable. Bill Simmons has written a few articles on his personal dealings with athletes and it’s always come across as how selfish and self-absorbed he thinks they all are. But then, Simmons has never made any secret that he prefers to keep his perspective to that of a fan...
  8. Except that 20yo CC Sabathia was something like 17-5 in his rookie year of 2001. While Ichiro won the fWAR battle today, I’m not sure if Fangraphs even existed in 2001...
  9. Like the 2006 Cardinals, who were 83-78 in the regular season and that was good enough to take an extremely weak NL Central. Except the 83 win 2006 Cardinals did win the World Series...
  10. Bogaerts would be an idiot to take a deal now unless it was basically his free agent price. Betts and Bradley might want something very close, but only delayed free agency by a year or two max. Benintendi can and should be extended now...
  11. This is what I have been saying, practically verbatim. I think the Sox got the best of what Kimbrel had to offer, and now it is time to move on and hopefully get the best years of another closer...
  12. It’s possible some fans want to dump Leon and don’t like the notion he makes more sense to keep than Swihart...
  13. Boring Sox off-season in store. Unless something goes wrong in ST, the Sox have a full lineup returning, potentially no bench spots available, one open rotation spot and one bullpen spot. I do think there will be some other moved
  14. I’d pass on Miller for the same reasons...
  15. That’s funny because I was making a Nobel joke when you typed it. So does this mean you’re in favor of age discrimination here too? (Yes I can change lanes on the fly that fast.)
  16. That’s why I won’t buy new jeans unless they get endorsed by a Nobel laureate...
  17. And they won. Sorry he was influential in your decision to surrender 2 hours of sleep. But he didn’t cost the Sox anything. Not at the trade deadline and not in October...
  18. It’s an award, not a marketing tool. Why not also give MVP to the player who does the most commercials and the Cy Young to the pitcher who garners the most television appearances?
  19. Britton only gave them 25 IP...
  20. Cora is the one making the call. He fills out the lineup card. It doesn't matter if Sale says "I want Sandy" or not. Cora still makes out the lineup. He can put Holt behind the plate if he wants to. Why are you blaming the pitchers here?
  21. I doubt we miss Buttrey all that much. Hr's the type of fringe talent found in every orgnization...
  22. Cleveland isn't offering him a QO, which means they fear he would accept it...
  23. There are reasons to do that and reasons not to. The primary reason not to is if he might not want to convert to closer and this suggestion makes him sign elsewhere. The idea of converting a starter to closer is certainly not a bad one. in fact, most closers were starters at one point, including Mariano Rivera (8 starts, 50 IP, 3-3, 5.94). I've suggested two other candidates for that, in Garrett Richards and Matt Harvey...
  24. No one has said the Sox shouldn't get an experienced closer. Except Dombrowski, who suggested they might try Barnes or Brasier in the role. (This was likely a negotiating tactic.) But Kimbrel isn't the only closer. And the Sox do have a lot of very key core players with arbitration and free agency pending, And whether you want to admit it or not, there is most definitely a spending limit at some point. Is Kimbrel, who apparently has his targets set at being the highest paid closer ever, really the best use of money? Last time the Sox had a closer who insisted on being the highest paid ever, they moved on as well, And given Papelbon's mediocre performance in Philly, it was the right move...
  25. I fear they'll go after Kluber, who isn't overrated but is available..
