  1. He hired Scott Boras as his agent, unlike Kershaw. I expect most players who hire Boras know his MO, and his track record and those are big factors in that choice. Don’t you think so?
  2. He never does. But they do retain him for his advice and negotiating skills. And he typically doesn’t advise them to sign an extension without seeing every possible offer...
  3. That doesn’t sound like something Scott Boras would do...
  4. They should probably trade them all, since that trio received roughly $48mill last year and were only valued at a total of 6.7 fWAR, which is worth about $53.5 mill. It’s a break even venture to get rid of them all...
  5. Such as Dave Bancroft and Ross Youngs (although Youngs might get some sympathy votes)...
  6. The big mysteries for the Sox this off-season are who will close and who joins the rotation st the back end? It’s possible both questions are answered by returning players. If the Sox had not won, maybe we would see something drastic like trading Bogaerts. But as defending champions, the status quo is more likely...
  7. Pretty much. That and my undying hope this off-season isn’t anywhere nesr as slow and boring as last off-season...
  8. Ramon Martinez deserves special mention for his one skill with the Red Sox - shutting down the Yankees...
  9. Pedroia has been out of favor with some people for a while, either due to his questionable health or the “It’s not me” incident. But no one seriously thinks the Sox should trade him for Cano...
  10. We might see CJ Chatham as the shortstop in 2020. Good defensive player, but we’ll see how his bat plays in AA this year. He’s on the short list of Sox prospects I can see starting for this team in the near future. And maybe Iglesias will only sign a one year deal this off-season....
  11. Not true, but it is on the list...
  12. 1. They might not have either Segura or Gordon come April. Both have been the subject of trade rumors, particularly Segura. 2. They would also have no need for Jacoby Ellsbury, but his name has surfaced in Cano trade talks as well...
  13. The entire point was to get Díaz...
  14. Or they could take Rusney Castillo, too. It doesn’t help the Sox luxury tax implications, but Henry could pay the tax instead of paying Rusney...
  15. The act of adding Nixon to the list injured him..
  16. The cold, calculating perspective of a Pedroia/Cano swap does make sense for the Sox. Cano could play 2b this year and shift over to 1b next year after Moreland and Pearce depart. Cano’s AAV of $24mill would be offset by the losses of Pedroia ($13mil), Moreland($6.5mill), and Pearce ($6.5mill). But from a Sox fan perspective, I could never deal Pedroia for Cano...
  17. I blame you for your rare attack of common sense
  18. And in between those plays, Kimbrel had 3 walks and a hit batsman...
  19. I While they give too many chances (you can appear on the ballot up to 15 times!!), the reason some players are considered “hallworthy” after not getting in is that the writers have a limited number of votes. So sometimes players don’t get in simply because there were better names on the ballot. And like for the same reason longevity can make you a Hall of Famer as a player, apparently it can as a candidate as well. Any player who can garner the minimum votes for 14 years stands a better chance at getting in on his fifteenth try. Like Jim Rice...
  20. D The NFL Hall of Fame has the most questionable rules. They have to induct at least 3 members every year and cannot induct more than 6. It’s worked out pretty well, but can’t we all envision that one year where the best name on the ballot is merely an average player?
  21. But not always equally. Kimbrel had some terrific defense - especially outfield defense - behind him that came in very handy in the postseason...
  22. I agree 100% here. With cp176? Yes I do. If we could get Díaz for our prospects, it’s a no-brainer. But that’s like trying to buy a Bentley with Monopoly money...
  23. I’d actually rather give up our prospects. Do we have anyone you’d consider untouchable? That said, the only way the Sox could get Diaz is if they also took Cano and probably one other bad contract as well. And for what Cano costs, the Sox could probably sign Kimbrel and Britton, which would be a much better move for every readon...
  24. Not sure why anyone would take in $120mill just to get Díaz, who will start making money himself one day as well. The Yankees could go sign Kimbrel and save $50mill+ instead...
  25. I thought that would be the one thing he was remembered for. Kevin Miller seems more forgotten for drawing the walk off Rivera...
