We might see CJ Chatham as the shortstop in 2020. Good defensive player, but we’ll see how his bat plays in AA this year. He’s on the short list of Sox prospects I can see starting for this team in the near future. And maybe Iglesias will only sign a one year deal this off-season....

The cold, calculating perspective of a Pedroia/Cano swap does make sense for the Sox. Cano could play 2b this year and shift over to 1b next year after Moreland and Pearce depart. Cano’s AAV of $24mill would be offset by the losses of Pedroia ($13mil), Moreland($6.5mill), and Pearce ($6.5mill). But from a Sox fan perspective, I could never deal Pedroia for Cano...

I While they give too many chances (you can appear on the ballot up to 15 times!!), the reason some players are considered “hallworthy” after not getting in is that the writers have a limited number of votes. So sometimes players don’t get in simply because there were better names on the ballot. And like for the same reason longevity can make you a Hall of Famer as a player, apparently it can as a candidate as well. Any player who can garner the minimum votes for 14 years stands a better chance at getting in on his fifteenth try. Like Jim Rice...

D The NFL Hall of Fame has the most questionable rules. They have to induct at least 3 members every year and cannot induct more than 6. It’s worked out pretty well, but can’t we all envision that one year where the best name on the ballot is merely an average player?

I agree 100% here. With cp176? Yes I do. If we could get Díaz for our prospects, it’s a no-brainer. But that’s like trying to buy a Bentley with Monopoly money...

I’d actually rather give up our prospects. Do we have anyone you’d consider untouchable? That said, the only way the Sox could get Diaz is if they also took Cano and probably one other bad contract as well. And for what Cano costs, the Sox could probably sign Kimbrel and Britton, which would be a much better move for every readon...

Not sure why anyone would take in $120mill just to get Díaz, who will start making money himself one day as well. The Yankees could go sign Kimbrel and save $50mill+ instead...

The Sox have some options here. They could spend heavy and go all in on Kimbrel and/or Eovaldi and take their best shot at repeating while the core is intact and before it breaks up and this team potentially crashes. Or be conservative and look for the lower cost, shorter term “value plays” that will enable extending some of the core players to keep the team competitive but less likely to win a title for a longer period...

And for the last 50 years, it’s just $1 per year. I wonder who would freak out on a contract like that. If it was $29,999,995 for each of the first 10 years and then $1 recurring player options for the next 50 years....

The fear he might be a flash in the pan? Angels had a similar out-of-nowhere 30ish pitcher the year before named Blake Parker, a guy who had been up and down between MLB and MiLB for like 5 or 6 years. He had a good season in Anaheim. They named him closer. He flamed out fast. I think Brasier makes the team, but let’s not throw everything at him just yet...

That actually is a pretty good call. Mueller might be about as underrated as it gets. The guy was an AL batting champion for the Sox, but who remembers that? -
In I remember Ankiel as pitcher his rookie year before all the psychological issues set in. On MLB Tonight one night, Tim Kurkjian actually said “If Rick Ankiel doesn’t cut it as a pitcher, he can still have a career as an outfielder because he’s such a good hitter.” How prophetic was that? Maybe Kurkjian needs to be in the Hall of Fame...

I don’t. I don’t think it’s fair to say relievers are inconsistent pitchers. To me that seems backwards. I would instead say that inconsistent pitchers are relievers. And those two statements are NOT the same thing...

P Moncada was turned into Sale, so that money was well spent. If the Red Sox didn’t have Moncada, the White Sox likely would have insisted on Benintendi (reportedly their top choice) in that trade...
