    Tend to agree. It’s hard to label Betts as a once-in-a-lifetime layer when he’s a contemporary of Mike Trout and the younger fast tracked Ronald Acuna and Juan Soto, both of whom might be inspiring the phrase “Mookie who?” by the time they turn 26...

    Let’s get hypothetical. Say the Sox are 10 (or more) games out on July 31 and this season looks lost. Maybe injuries have piled up. Betts has resisted all attempts to sign an extension and is looking for Trout money (although Arenado money might be more realistic). With 1 and a half seasons left, his value is never going to be higher. What if the Dodgers offer a package built around Alex Verdugo and Julio Urias, with others? Still pass? What if Corey Seager (whom they went to a World Series without last year) was one of those others? Still no? (Again, hypothetical. Not expecting these exact returns.)

    That’s funny. So JD Martinez in your eyes clearly learned NOTHING about free agency from his own “cautionary tale” and will definitely opt out a full year before his salary even drops. But Chapman will look at the outrageous demand from a pitcher he undoubtedly thinks is a lesser closer anyway, and decide he will do what’s best for the Yankees? Got it...

    Pedroia’s deal was a bargain. In the three seasons prior, Pedroia was worth 20.9 fWAR, which ranked third among MLB second basemen, trailing only Cano and Ben Zonrist. And Zobrist’s total was a reflection of his versatility, as it was inflated by multiple defensive contributions. That off-season, both Cano and Pedroia signed new contracts. Check out the differences in those deals sometime...

    They aren’t going to lose Martinez. The Sox are already prepared to pay him $62mill over the next 3 years, and if he opts out for more years at a lower AAV, they’ll be involved in that,too. The JD Martinez-Dombrowski relationship goes back way too many years and so far, DD seems like the only GM to ever have faith in this guy...

Like, someone said “ok we really really need a villain! Preferably one that gilivrs is a ‘fell good’ ending!” But you gotta love Dennis Quaid in that movie...

    Major League was a complete ripoff of Bull Durham. You know the entire pitch that sold that movie was “Ok how about we take the players from Bull Durham, you know, the grizzled veteran catcher whose seen the game pass him by, the young firebrand pitcher whose all arm and no brains, the Voodoo practitioner, the Christian zealot, all of them, and ... get this... put them IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES!!!?”
