  1. It could have been but that was hardly a routine play. The only real poor defense was by Lowe…
  2. The only problem with that walk was the Yankees followed it up with two routine grounders that found the OF because the Sox were playing for a double play. Unlucky inning for Early. What was the hardest hit ball? The seeing eye groundball by Rosario?
  3. AI. Thats my new standard answer for how everything incomprehensible gets done…
  4. I didn’t mind Eaton there. If I’m going to argue for Abreu playing, I think he should have started over Duran (with Eaton in LF)…
  5. Look at the pictures Sox24 posted. Eaton in on third base as Jaz is getting to his feet. At this point, Eaton (who runs 29.7 feet/sec per StatCast) is 3 full seconds from home. If Chisholm makes a good throw to first base and it takes a full second and half - a slow play - Eaton is still 45 feet from home plate. Then Rice has 1.5 seconds to throw a ball 90 feet. If he throws a mere 60mph - roughly the speed of a bad high school fastball - the ball gets there in 1 second, 15 feet ahead of Eaton. Basically folks are mad at Hudson for not anticipating Rice dropping the ball. Hudson made the right call, it just didn’t work out. That can happen…
  6. With everything on the line, these starters might combine for 6 IP…
  7. Chisholm had 3 seconds to make a play - Thats how long until Eaton scores. Time to look to first and then look home where his play was. But whether or not he did it was irrelevant. The point is - Hudson had to acknowledge that possibility that Chisholm saw the play in front of him. Be sis if Chisholm did see it, the inning is over. Rice might have even had enough time has he caught the ball cleanly. The problem with this play was Hudson read it right, but too many “what ifs” That He didnt have time to ask about did happen. If Eaton gets nailed at the plate there with Story due up, do you defend the decision to send him?
  8. It was probably the right call. In the pictures you posted, Eaton is only touching third and Chisholm is already on his feet. Chisholm would have had an easy play at home. Sorry to let Butler off the hook. But holding Eaton was the right call…
  9. Never showers. And as horrible, horrible gas. 99% on StatCast…
  10. Stop. Eaton was not even at third base when Chisholm caught the ball cleanly. If Eaton was sent, he could easily have been thrown out at home. Hudson had no way of knowing where Chisholm was going to throw the ball. Holding Eaton was the safe move, especially with Story due up and Trevor had all the Sox RBIs and homered in his last at bat. It just looked worse because Rice dropped the ball, but it’s not like it rolled 20 feet away. Heck if Rice caught the throw cleanly, he might have had a chance to throw Eaton out, too. Too many are blaming Hudson for not reading the Yankees’ players’ minds and for not knowing the future…
  11. Duran over Verdugo in LF. Narvaez (2.8 bWAR) over Vazquez (1.2 bWAR) . I fully acknowledge replacement player values differ in those to seasons. But Narvaez is more than double here. One can debate Rafaela (4.8 bWAR) over Kike (4.9 bWAR), but your point is made. Except if Devers moved to 1b, where would Schwarber play?
  12. Platooning is small market stuff. “We can’t afford an actual good left fielder, so let’s get two much cheaper players with complimentary situational skill sets and save some cash.” You know some CBO somewhere has used those exact words….
  13. I internally debated about 2009. Tough call. I forgot about the ARod years. Good catch. 2019? Not offensivly. That was the year the Yankees decided to play defense…
  14. It probably is a numbers game. Growing up facing pitchers in Little League and high school where you’re facing the general populace, you probably only see a lefty 10% of the time. But as being a lefty is an asset in MLB, the percentage of LHPs is much higher, probably closer to 25-30%…
  15. Because we lump all the data together in one category? It’s all situational at some point. Just because you can thump Patrick Corbin doesn’t make you a better hitter vs Tarik Skubal..
  16. Unfair. After every MiLB signing, someone posts that. Every. Single. One. And you know that. Like I said, he’s a bench guy. If the Sox bring him back in that capacity next year, I’m fine with it…
  17. And unlike some, I’m shocked these role players have done as well as they have. The Sox have a winner-take-all game in the first round despite trotting out quite possibly the worst lineup to appear in the postseason since … well, hmmm …. how far back can I go here? And the really funny part is folks are angry this clear B Team Squad didnt sweep. In Yankee Stadium! Against probably the toughest Yankee lineup in 25 years! Maybe longer!
  18. Hes a good bench player to have, but that’s his ceiling. It does help that he is passable at a couple infield positions…
  19. Eaton’s best position is DH? His skills include (in order) throwing, running, and fielding. The one aspect of the game he is well below average in is hitting (career OPS+ of 71)….
  20. So who starts at 2b tonight? Hamilton? Does Wong start at catcher? I figure the Sox
  21. How are you getting tickets? I’ve seen multiple stories they’re only selling to folks with billing addresses in NY, NJ, CT and PA. And probably not even all of PA…
  22. It’s the Bench. While they are the guys we use vs LHP, they’re not starters; they’re role players. And Sogard does not start every game vs LHP. My only concern is Duran, while Cora said is starting for defensive purposes, is a questionable choice. Abreu hits lefties better and is a superior defender. And while Duran’s speed is a potential asset in that left field canyon, Eaton is the faster runner. And probably the better defensive outfielder. But it’s not like that decision necessarily cost anything. Abreu could have very easily been just an non-existent on offense as Duran has been…
  23. The Yankees were the top slugging team in MLB and have scored 5 runs in two games. Their lineup yesterday featured 9 players with 20 or more home runs on the season (counting Volpe’s game one blast). How’s that working out? Sox played two games in the ballpark against their two best starters and earned a split while playing their B team lineup…
