Actually that this trade went down when it did does support the theory that Devers asked to be traded. If this was all about unloading Devers ASAP, should it really have taken a month?

I’m a firm believer very few top free agents prioritize winning over money when signing deals. This trade will mean nothing to those players. All the Sox have to do is make competitive offers. Of course, that has been an issue in the past and there is no reason to believe it will change any time soon..

Reportedly Devers asked to be traded. If so, on some level that probably means you need to look into it. I don’t like that’s what it got to, if that did indeed go down…

And they acquired a (soon to be) 24 yo SP with a BA Top 100 pedigree who is under control through 2029, one of the hardest throwing pitchers in MLB, and they acquired a 13th overall pick from 2024. But there is no denying this team is worse than it was 24 hours ago…

While I don’t support his not hustling, he did recently say he had some groin issues. What if he didn’t run hard because it hurt to?

I do not think it’s true that no one ever suggested 1b to Devers. Bloom’s initial contract extension proposal that Devers rejected was similar to an extension that had recently been signed by Matt Olson with Atlanta. Reportedly this extension was based on the organization’s view that Devers’ future was as a first baseman in the view of the Sox organization. If this is true and was relayed to Devers (and/or his agent), then it did come up before…

I can understand getting upset about being told his defense was a problem (which it was). But I can’t get the highest paid player when asked about filling in for an injured teammate publicly saying “I can’t play every position” and “it’s [Breslow’s] job to go get a first baseman.” Im hearing stories Devers asked to be traded…

It never ceases to amaze me how many fans think they know the health and status of the bullpen better than the managers. Cora isn’t giving save opportunities to Weissert because he wants some sort of Socialist bullpen. When another pitcher is getting a save chance, 100% of the time it is because Chapman is unavailable…
