  1. Yes!!! Panic time!!! The Yankees Magic Number is 77!!! Time’s getting short!!
  2. We really need someone to bite the bullet and watch a Seagal movie. Just a minute or so might be enough...
  3. We know the answer. The Sox couldn’t afford to take on as much cash as the Yankees...
  4. There seems to be a very sharp drop pfff once a player turns 30. This year’s most interesting free agent might be Nick Castellanos. He’s 28, but not exactly elite...
  5. And Josh Smith is back!! In case you missed him...
  6. Was there a possibility he didn’t lose that game? Britton might have given up a run and list as well, but there is a difference between getting beaten with your best and getting beaten while taking half measures. And that difference was shown in the beating Showalter took afterwards...
  7. And Carson Smith got released. His career has fizzled and might even be over...
  8. As he should have been. Showalter was managing for the save. But he needed to keep putting up 0’s on the bottom of the scoreboard, and lost the game because he wouldn’t use his pitcher most capable of putting up 0’s. He managed for the save and it cost him the win...
  9. How many innings do you expect a bullpen to hold a one run lead? It’s not like Price gave them 7 innings and the bullpen coughed it up in the last 2. That pen pitched OVER ELEVEN INNINGS. More than a full game. They used every active relief pitcher. Blaming the bullpen for last night’s loss is like blaming Eovaldi for the loss on the World Series...
  10. Exactly. So before the Hector Velasquez-types. Which is why Velasquez blowing that save isn’t a reflection on the closer situation...
  11. O I know. As has Price (when not getting shelled early). But I’m reaching for the negative possibilities here. I don’t think he’s that stupid...
  12. Agreed. Otherwise I agree with you that it was stupid. Even if he thought he could get more IP from his bullpen because of the job Porcello did the night before, that would be dumb. A couple nights off for the pen in mid-June is rarely a bad thing...
  13. So when do you use him at home? Once you go to extra innings, he can’t get a save. Once you take the lead, the game is over...
  14. Unless there is something wrong with Price, even if it’s a mild issue. I’m hoping Cora isn’t going to put insanely low pitch counts on Price and Sale the rest of the way. I’m hoping he isn’t that stupid. Because if that’s the case, this bullpen will be completely spent before the All Star break...
  15. They did, but once was their best reliever this season and the other time was in the 13th inning with their 7th reliever of the game. I can’t fault the 7th relief pitcher used for not saving the game. If the Sox had Kimbrel or even Mariano Rivera in his prime, it’s not like they were going to save him for the 13th inning and use the rest of the bullpen in front of him. The offense was the problem. They had plenty of opportunities to score and failed nearly every time...
  16. It might means he’s still not 100%. Getting more IP out of Price might have worked out better, but are you really arguing that the performance of the bullpen was the problem last night/this morning?
  17. Definitely. I did. It’s not a matter of what he could foresee. If there is nothing wrong with Price, why take him out and use the bullpen for more IP than necessary? And that it would have played out that Johnson wouldn’t pitch in the 17th inning looks like it would have been a good thing. Agreed?
  18. Good chance he breaks that season high this year, as he already has 45 starts. Colorado was interested in him, and I am guessing they are well aware of how often they get to use a DH...
  19. Maybe but Cora can talk to Price and see how he feels, unlike us. It might have been foolishness, but at least acknowledge Cora is making this call with infinitely more information than us. And the problem wasn’t the pitching after Price. It was the abysmal performance by the Sox hitters, especially with RISP...
  20. But that also buys the Sox two more innings before having to go to Brian Johnson...
  21. Considering in his last start, Price got hammered like a sorority girl on Jell-O shot night, maybe the quick hook was health related or a preventive measure...
  22. Yes that was soooooo enlightening. Before he said that, I thought Butler was benched due to an online fan vote...
  23. One NL team I mentioned was Milwaukee, whose been using Jesus Aguilar and Eric Thames at first. Neither are exactly Kevin Youkilis with the glove. The other was Colorado, who was apparently interested but not willing to eat as much money as the Yankees...
  24. The Sox aren’t trading Porcello. But they might acquire a pitcher controllable through next season and then not re-sign Porcello. I think that’s unlikely, as they really don’t have the chips for a worthwhile pitcher with that much control. I think they’ll move on a cheaper pitcher like Cashner and he’ll replace Eovaldi in the rotation for as long as required in 2019. And move to the bullpen if/when Nathan rejoins the rotation (assuming no one else is hurt)...
  25. I also doubt Dombrowski adds anything to this bullpen, at least not directly. More likely he adds a swingman type who can pitch while a starter is out but can go to the bullpen on the rare occasion our starting 5 is healthy. If he wants to replace Porcello for next year with this trade, it gets difficult to figure out who his target is. Maybe Anthony Desclafini? Brad Keller? Mike Minor? (Because the Sox need another lefty.) If he is ok with a rental who isn’t going to dent the burgeoning supply of elite prospects, the target might be someone like Andrew Cashner. (Brian Johnson for Cashner and cash? I’m ok with that.)
