  1. And we have a winner!!! The Red Sox do lead the American League with 419 bullpen appearances (and that’s before adding another half dozen today). And yet they are 7th in innings from the pen - and last in the AL East. (Opener strategies do impact here.) That might say something since it probably also means the Sox are at or near the bottom of the league in bullpen IP/Appearance. Maybe because they aren’t dry effective? Or is Cora too overeactive?
  2. I think the Sox have already quit. They’re not hitting Chris Owings in leadoff because it’s a proven path to success...
  3. Oh we’re past that. In fact, I’m not so sure he hasn’t already done it...
  4. Helped by Holt not making contact...
  5. Blown save, Matt Barnes. The Reds just released David Hernandez, who has some solid peripherals. Yet I bet anything Dombrowski passes...
  6. 8.01. The teenage non-pitchers the Sox traded for him might not be that ineffective...
  7. Cashner needs to throw 12 straight scoreless innings to get his ERA down to that range...
  8. Because DD is waving the white flag on 2019 and seeing what his few in-season moves are worth, if anything? Maybe Cody Asche is next....
  9. Going out on a limb here, but as Kluber is on a rehab assignment, he really didn’t care who was hitting what off him, as long as it didn’t hurt...
  10. Dombrowski did draft him and keep him on an MLB roster when Rick was only 2 years removed from high school...
  11. Clearly you are unfamiliar with the work of Dan Straily, Trevor Cahill and Adam Warren this year. And how does Warren go to San Diego and become one of the worst pitchers?
  12. If it expired one year earlier, DD might have extended him. It’s not like he’s an expendable valuable relief pitcher...
  13. The plan should be as easy as the directions on a shampoo bottle. 1. Deal Betts 2. Reset 3. Sign Betts...
  14. Actually.... https://2080baseball.com/reports/bobby-dalbec/
  15. I don’t think he will be. But I do think he should be. Heck I think the Sox should have already dealt him...
  16. So the Sox called up Chris Owings today, a clear sign Dombrowski means business. This move should finally pacify the bloodthirsty mob that has been clamoring for the Sox to acquire a 27yo utility player with a .415 OPS. Dombrowski does mean business. He is going to show that he can get the Sox to the postseason even if he has to use the absolute worst player in MLB this year to do it...
  17. Well I still think dealing Betts can be the right move, I just don’t think it will happen. I also think no way Bradley gets offered arbitration unless one of two things happens. 1) JD Martinez opts out. This isn’t so likely because his pay doesn’t drop until 2021 and he can opt out prior to them. And, his 2019 is not quite his 2018. But even if he does, there’s still a chance the Sox re-up Martinez over tendering Bradley. 2) The other chance for Bradley tone tendered would be if Dombrowski isn’t paying attention to the Sox and making every decision blindly. I mention this because it seems like what he’s been doing since last October anyway...
  18. And matching hat!!! Don’t undersell it!
  19. Calling it now. No reset. Resetting makes a 2020 title more difficult. And then Sale and Price are two years older in 2021. That doesn’t bode well. If the 2020 fails, then perhaps a major restructuring happens coinciding with Betts departure...
  20. Maybin would have been ok, but he’s hardly on anyone’s wishlist. Carpin brought him up at one point as a free agent. If the Sox are in the market for an outfielder, they might not even get a CF. They could move Betts or Benintendi to CF. If I’m looking at that list for potential bargains, somehow I seem to think Corey Dickerson. Not sure why, but probably because he was once non-tendered after a season in which he played in the All Star game, so I guess I think he’s disrespected. Kole Calhoun might be a good option as well...
  21. No. Not like Lester, who was offered obviously less as one of the top free agents available. Like it or not, I doubt many teams view Bradley as a bargain at $12mill. And it’s hardly “grasping at straws.” Players who get non-tendered re-sign with their former team every year. Last year, Mike Fiers, Matt Bush, Caleb Joseph, Adrian Sampson, and a few others all re-signed with the team that declined to tender them a contract. Legares sand Maybin are both free agents (assuming the Mets decline Legares option) and neither are going to command a lot of money. If offered a starting chance in Boston, there’s a good chance the Sox could get one or an equal. And there are others. And while I can’t the two names I mentioned as examples, I can guarantee that DD won’t non-tender Bradley and then leave the position unmanned. I think the Sox make every effort to keep Betts and there are a few contract casualties along the way, which is why it might be unwise...
  22. Maybe Cora has given up too..,
  23. I don’t see it. The Sox have roughly $130mill committed to 7 players next year. Plus several arbitration cases besides Bradley that include Betts, Benintendi, Barnes, and ERod, none of whom are getting non-tendered and who could all add up to about $50-60mill. That puts the Sox at potentially $190mill for 11 players. Add in benefits and it’s $205mill with 29 salaries left to account for. Wright will be non-tendered. Possibly Hembree as well. And Bradley is possiblity, especially if JD Martinez doesn’t opt out this year (which would be unwise). I don’t think Betts goes anywhere, which might also be unwise. But it’s not like once Bradley is non-tendered, he’s necessarily gone. He might be brought back for less. And if he isn’t, the Sox are not going to lay with just two outfielders. Those pitchers who love his defense might find Juan Legares or Cameron Maybin equally lovable for a budget conscious team...
  24. If his previous raises are any guide, he will be in the $11-12mill range....
  25. This one does work out with today’s values: Dodgers get: Mookie Betts Pirates get: Catcher Will Smith, 2b Jeter Downs, Darwinzon Hernandez Red Sox get: Julio Urias, Felipe Vazquez
