  1. Especially if he thinks errors are meant to validate defense. They’re not. Their purpose is to explain baserunners who got on base (or took an extra base) on a batted ball due to poor defensive play. That’s why no error is awarded if a flyball is dropped but a runner is forced out a second. Or on a flubbed double play grounder that only gets one runner. Using errors to evaluate defense is like using wild pitches to determine pitcher control…
  2. Well, if it can’t be done in MLB: The Show, I can see the crisis. You should have opened with that. :) But if there is any validity, is there a pitcher you can (off the top of your head) recall that was blatantly snubbed?
  3. Those extensions will still look good even with some regression. Some…
  4. A point I’ve been countering (with examples) for some time now…
  5. TPYM blocked me for talking down to a Yankee troll, but most of his posts boil down to “you people just don’t understand this game like I do.”
  6. And anyone who thinks errors are clear cut and obvious has never watched MLB. And probably argued with their son after T-ball games. ”Daddy I got 3 hits today! I got 3 hits!” ”Actually son. Those were errors. You hit the ball right at the other team. They just couldn’t catch COVID if they licked every door knob in 2020.” ”But I hit the ball!” :: tears::: ”Yeah. Off a tee. What kind of league is this? Can they at least get a tee that acts like a curveball?”
  7. Duran to Philadelphia. Philly 21yo SS prospect Aiden Miller to Pitt. Mitch Keller to Boston. Doesn’t work on BTV unless Philly also send AA LHP Moises Chace to Boston as well. Chace, however, is out for the rest of the year (and probably half of next year) after TJ. So someone else?
  8. Doubtful Skenes can be had without giving up one or both of Mayer and Anthony. BTV accepts a package of Campbell, Abreu, Arias and Tolle. But would Pittsburgh? Should Boston?
  9. Will Gallen and his 0.2 bWAR really cost more than Kelly? Both are 2 month rentals, so age isnt really a factor. Gallen is having a horrible year interrupted by the occasional good outing. Not sure if he can bounce back in two months. Expensive or not, avoid!
  10. I predict either Cabrera or Alcantara to the Cubs for OF Owen Caissie. Book it…
  11. Half the pitchers in the league are coming off injuries. The other half are heading towards them. I get passing on Alcantara. And Cabrera. But at some point, the Sox are going to have to take some sort of risk. Just preferably not a Buehler level risk…
  12. What available starter should the Sox pursue? Alcantara is available. Ditto the oft-injured Edward Cabrera. Other targets might be Mitch Keller, Seth Lugo and Zac Gallen. There are rumors about the availability of Joe Ryan and Mackenzie Gore. I have my doubts…
  13. Let’s assume they’re ok with the BTV equivalent of Clarke. Do you do it?
  14. Huh? Buehler was an injury risk. Giolito was not, but got injured a lot since arriving. Sandoval was signed to a recovery/pillow contract. Crawford, Houck and Bello have had various injuries. But it’s hardly the same as acquiring frequently injured arms. Acquiring a pitcher immune to injury would be awesome. But it’s just remains impossible…
  15. Certainly possible. Maybe only for this year, but Boston might be better off letting someone else find out…
  16. Both B-R and Fangraphs give Crochet the edge over Rafaela. The difference in fWAR is Crochet by 0.9. bWAR has then only separated by a negligible 0.1. They also both have Narvaez as more valuable than Chapman…
  17. Sandy Alcantara. Free agent after 2026 with a $21mill option for 2027. Owed $25mill thru next year including $2mill buyout. Not having a good year at all. Still, BTV gives him a surplus value of $15.7 mill, roughly equal to Brandon Clarke ($16.3mill). But his past history and controllable cheap deal probably means he is worth more, especially given how many teams might be interested. Luis Severino might also be available. BTV has him as a straight salary dump…
  18. There are some Fungibles (Eaton, Sogard, possibly Grissom) that can be trimmed if necessary. Moving Hunter Dobbins to the 60 day IL will be the first move made to clear space when it’s needed…
  19. It’s actually all done with software now. It takes in launch angle, escape velocity, etc. and acknowledges that all, say, batted groundballs hit to shortstop are not equal and some are tougher plays…
  20. Especially now that Devers is having back issues. Although I wish him a speedy recovery…
