  1. Emmanuel Clase is on administrative leave connected to sports betting. Seth Lugo signed an extension with the Royals. Scratch those two names off your lists…
  2. The Rangers hot run has come at the expense of the A’s, Braves and Tigers. While the Tigers are normally tough, theyre in a massive funk right now going 1-12 over their past 13 games. (That one win - against Texas.) So why is it the Rangers can beat up on teams and be rolling, but when Boston does, its only because those other teams are struggling?
  3. But you will have to include Jhoan Duran in this deal. That way the Sox can just recycle Jarren’s jerseys. But on the bright side, the Twins can do the same thing! Jarren Duran for Jhoan Duran and Simeon Woodrich. I’d call it a win-win!!
  4. He has already removed the hyphen from his name. Maybe he’s amenable to taking out a few letters as well. Would it work for Henry if he went by Simeon Woodrich?
  5. Salas has also been out for over 2 months with a stress fracture in his back, attributed to possible overuse. Why would the Sox use one of their best trade chips on a rental pitcher and a 19yo catcher that already has back problems?
  6. With Mayer out, Duran becomes more valuable to Boston. No one prefers Rafaela at 2b instead of CF. But I would bet everyone prefers him at 2b and Duran in CF over Hamilton at 2b, Rafaela in CF, and Duran on the bench. Ok maybe not EVERYONE prefers the lineup with Duran over Hamilton. Opposing pitchers, for example, probably don’t…
  7. The Jays have the best record in the AL. Are they really flawless? The Tigers were looking like the darlings of the AL for over 3 months. They’re 1-12 in their last 13 games, including getting swept by Pittsburgh. Sure the Sox aren’t perfect. What team is?
  8. I like that take. As long as Mayer is back on time for that experience…
  9. I’d love to add Cease. But not for Duran. Maybe Sandlin? Possibly go as high as Early? Definite pass if the price is Arias, Tolle and maybe even Password…
  10. Absolutely. The Sox didnt soend a bunch of money to bring in Bregman and extend Crochet so they could continue building the farm. The arguments for selling are stupid at this point. The “can’t win it all” is meaningless. 29 teams won’t win it all this year. Should they all sell? I hate the arguments that they their roster doesn’t meet the requirements of the Magical Roster Formula. Like it’s just that simple. “Oh the Sox need a #2 starter.” Shut up! Yes they should improve their pitching. Every team in the postseason hunt is going to try that. But tell me what exactly is a “#2 starter”? And then tell me what team is thinking “we have a good #1 and #2 starter. We really need a #4.”
  11. He didn’t even take another one after he killed Godzilla. Dude make Cal Ripken look like a wimp…
  12. The only regular it would be nice to move would be Yoshida, unless they can get his 5’1” frame to become useful as a 1b. I do think the Sox have to give up something substantial from the minors. Especially for a rotation upgrade, unless they just get a cheap filler rental…
  13. They probably will keep both. But the point was just because they didn’t trade him this past season didnt mean they can no longer sell high on him. And while there is no need, they do appear to be talking. That they passed up Cease and Salas strongly suggests they’re not moving him just for the best offer they get. Interesting to me is that the Dodgers could clearly use Duran and have expressed interest, the Sox are interested in Rushing, the two players align pretty well on BTV, but no mention of this proposal anywhere. So again, it’s looking like the Sox need to be blown away to deal him…
  14. While BTV had this as a fair trade, the only way I make it is if I’m running the Twins…
  15. Got to find the new high. The logic can’t be “well we missed it. Guess we keep him forever and trade Roman instead”…
  16. Or… does it make it the perfect time to trade him? I mean, isn’t selling high normally considered a good idea?
  17. Cease is a definite help. Even in his down year, hes better than Buehler. And with potential to be elite, as his track record suggests. But he’s only short term. I wouldn’t give 3 years of Duran up for 2 months of Cease and the hope that 18yo Ethan Salas can make it worthwhile…
  18. I’m not wild about Duran in LF, but I wouldn’t call CF easier than LF based solely on Yount’s testimony. Plenty of other weak CFs went on to become very good LFs. Yount (along with BJ Upton and I think Jose Offerman) might be the in the minority in thinking CF was easier. I would think CF was harder because it covers more ground, has longer throws to third and home than LF, and judging flyballs hit right at you is very difficult for many (including Duran one memorable day when the Sox faced Toronto and Raimel Tapia). I don’t like the idea of trading Duran, but unless someone moves to 1b, or the Sox can move Yoshida, they do have a bit too much outfield talent. Duran does have the weakest defensive profile among the Sox four outfielders. And Abreu is the hardest to move as he is far and away the best RF plus he is the de facto team leader in home runs. Has any team ever traded away their top two home run hitters and still made the postseason? It seems unlikely…
  19. To make this work on BTV (and using highest-valued prospects that fit ): Boston gets Ryan and Jax from Minnesota Philly gets Jarren Duran from Boston and Jhoan Duran from Minnesota Minnesota gets Aidan Miller, Justin Crawford, Mick Abel, and Eduardo Tait from Philly. And Kristian Campbell and Allan Castro from Boston. (Campbell could be replaced by Peyton Tolle and Franklin Arias, but BTV has a 6 player limit and I was just taking highest value that fits. Campbell did.) The big change is Philly actually giving something of value up as opposed to taking on two All Star players with multiple years of control each, and only giving up two borderline top 100 (and zero top 90!) prospects…
  20. Most of Bloom’s shortstop draftees fell into the category of “best player on his high school team” and were never expected to suck at shortstop…
  21. The win tonight makes us 3-5 against the three NL division leaders. Still 2-5 in the games I was talking about. The Sox are looking at 3-6 or 4-5 in a pretty crazy 9 game stretch. I’m fine with it. There was some talk the Sox needed to go at least 4-5 in these games, which was ridiculous. They absolutely didnt NEED to. But they might do it. We’re not sellers. No go get Yandy and some pitching…
  22. So you’re a Philly fan now? I thought you were down on Desperate Dave?
