  1. Assuming either is on the radar at all. I assume Bregman is the top target, and one that excludes Alonso. The big downside to Alonso. Is it’s easier to get 75% of his production I for 25% of his price tag (numbers not exact). The trade market might also carry 1b options beyond Alonso, Suarez, Hoskins, Bell, and the confusingly never-mentioned Luis Arraez. Christian Walker is reportedly and unexcitedly available. As much as no one fantasizes about him, he is a step or two above Abraham Toro. Yandy Diaz is reportedly available. Ryan Mountcastle is a non-tender candidate that can be had. MJ Melendez is reportedly available and some say a non-tender possibility. Spencer Torkelson has fallen from grace. And Thats just a cursory look at the AL…
  2. Everybody is healthy in November…
  3. Duran for Skubal!! Makes sense for both teams! Except Detroit. It really makes very little sense for them…
  4. And not by Barnes & Barnes enchanting melody “Fish Heads”? And who knew one of the Barnes’s in that group was none other than former “Lost in Space” child actor Billy Mumy? (Truth)
  5. Really? With Alex Cora managing? He’d platoon his own mother if some other mom hit LHP better…
  6. King was teammates there with former Blue Jay/Brewer Tom Pannone…
  7. So what exactly is the difference between a #2 and a #3 starting pitcher?
  8. Tender Casas. Tender Houck. Why do you think Casas is polarizing? He does seem a little goofy, but that’s not necessarily bad. Plus it probably helps that he seems to be fluent (or close to it) in Spanish. Really the only non-tenders should be Lowe, Grissom and maybe Winckowski…
  9. With Skubal, maybe McCaffrey has some inside track about who Detroit wants. My only channel is making fair deals on BTV. Skubal has a surplus value of $51.6mill. A fair deal on BTV is Campbell, Arias and Paez. But when it comes to acquiring players like Skubal, my logic is “if you’re fine giving it up, it isn’t enough.” I’m very ok with that trade package. So it probably isn’t enough. One year of Skubal is almost an even swap for Mayer and far less than Duran. But that doesn’t mean Detroit won’t insist on one or both and then some…
  10. Tread lightly. Imanaga collapsed badly in the second half of his second season. Despite this, he was immensely popular among Cubs’ fans and was a face of the franchise. The Marquee channel that broadcasts the Cubs’ most aired commercial for the team featured Imanaga in the shower singing “Go Cubs Go.” Despite his popularity, thr Cubs - the team that knows him best and knows how popular he is - still chose to release him. Most likely they don’t think of him as worth a $19mil AAV over the next 3 years. And if he isn’t, does he really qualify as that missing “#2 starter”?
  11. The Sox were a good team last year despite deploying Toro/Gonzalez at 1b and Campbell’s/Hamilton at 2b and getting sub-.700 OPS from both position. Also with Yoshida sitting out the bulk of the year and then getting off to a slow start before finally heating up in September. And then there were the injuries. Brining back Bregman, getting a full season of Mayer (likely in a platoon), getting a full season of Yoshida, and then upgrading at 1b over career AAAA bat Toro does represent an improvement. Sure they cannot bank on health, but they also cannot bank on any new free agent being healthy either. Not to mention the offense wasn’t so incompetent that it needs an overhaul. And reportedly they want to add a frontline pitching arm…
  12. Michael King slots into the 2 spot. Sox hold Early in this scenario. Hamilton has options and sticks around. Might even be a bench guy….
  13. His fielding has never earned him accolades. And at some point, even DHs are desirable…
  14. 1. Sign Bichette (8 yrs $XXX Million) 2. Trade LHSP Kyle Harrison to Tampa for 1b Yandy Diaz 3.Sign Michael King for 3 years $YY million) 4. Trade Duran to LAD for C Dalton Rushing and RHP Emmet Sheehan Yes this plan involves acquiring TWO BC alumni..
  15. The Sox 2b hit .670. At first base, the upgrade is over what the Sox got from Toro/Romy. Not too difficult IMO. I di like the idea of Bichette and Bell on the right side as opposed to Alonso and ? Hamilton/Romy again? Hamilton/Grissom? Or sign Rengifo, who is really a self-platooning Hamilton?
  16. Alonso will be 31. Schwarber will be 33. Bichette will be 28. And will play a position more difficult to get production at…
  17. In the interests of avoiding ambiguity, the $32mill was a total and not his yearly salary…
  18. And years close to 8. Or more? i’d give Bo Bichette 8 years before I gave Bregman 6…
  19. That’s why I don’t attach money. I’m either going to underestimate or overcompensate. There is no third option. Trades? BTV gives me their interpretation of “fair,” and the deals probably are fair. That doesn’t mean other teams like them. Sometimes teams don’t want to make fair trades and want to rip you off. Not much I can do to guess that.
  20. I’ve literally posted dozens of them. I rarely (re: never) attach dollar values, but I do suggest trades that often are at a minimum “fair” on BTV. (I also post ones where Boston overpays, but never ones where the other team does.)
  21. So $37.5mill AAV? Give him too much per year and Kutter Crawford becomes the best #2 that the Sox will pay for…
  22. If Schwarber can for 4 years, does anyone think Philly lets him walk? Last time he signed for only 4 years, he was coming off a season in which he was non-tendered by the Cubs and missed the some time due to injury. (Remember he was on the IL when the Sox acquired him?) This year he put up MVP numbers and has established himself among the best sluggers in the game. Chances are good his contract demands have adjusted accordingly…
  23. So the locks are Story, Anthony, Rafaela, Duran/Abreu and Narvaez. I would add Mayer to this list at either 2b or 3b. This leaves openings at 1b, 2b/3b and DH. I could see DH filled internally with Yoshida or Casas (when ready). I assume you had Mayer as your other “internal option.” So I’m on board with this. Two additions to the lineup. Hopefully one is one of the top FA (Bichette, Bregman, Alonso) or a significant trade acquisition like Ketel Marte (currently not rumored to be available, but might Devers his way out of Arizona).
