  1. Per Rotoworld, the Dodgers are talking to Bloom about Betts, but apparently Mookie is Plan B if they can’t work out a deal for Lindor,...
  2. Hinske also played in 3 straight World Series with 3 different teams. That’s gotta be a short list...
  3. And yet he still put together a playoff team there, and for very little money. I doubt he considers our opinions as opposed to his own judgement that enabled him to land the job in the first place amd has enabled him to build winning teams before. There is a saying among sports professionals - "Don't listen to the fans, or you'll wind up sitting in the stands with them."
  4. Agreed. If both start slow or get injured, not only does it hamper the Sox chances this year, it also means they won't achieve any reset goals. Which in turn could mean the Sox are not players for Betts after this year...
  5. McDonald was definitely about as under-the-radar as it gets, but he was more of a pleasant surprise than an actual significant contributor. Sort of the quieter version of Pedro Ciriaco. Doug Fister was actually a really good pitcher for the Sox who came out of nowhere...
  6. If the Sox trade both now, depending on how much of Price's contract they eat and what if anything they get back, they could fill the spots with better players and possibly even be competitive while staying under the tax line and not resorting to players like my prediction of Cesar Puello...
  7. But if the Sox trade him on July 31, doesn't roughly 2/3 of his salary still count against the luxury tax? If they just want him gone and to move as much money as possible, I don't think waiting is the goal here...
  8. If his goal is to unload a lot of cash - and per everyone in the Sox front office, it is - then he also needs to find a willing GM to take on said cash, or as much of it as possible. That means his "inaction" isn't necessarily all on his inability to make a decision, but rather his waiting on the decisions from his league-wide counterparts to help fulfuill his needs. And really, he cannot add too much until he knows how much he can unload. This is probably not a matter of Bloom being unable to make a decision or overthinking everything. There are 31 other decision makes involved around the league he needs input from. Or he could act hastily and give the appearance of activity and see if anything is better out there, especially if what he is currently doesn't make all that much sense...
  9. But if the Mets trade Cano. they do not have to send the money from Seattle along with him...
  10. THe designation of "under the radar" can be a bit vague, but a few other candidates might be Mike Timlin Hideki Okajima Darnell McDonald Cody Ross Doug Fister Greg Harris Jeff Gray
  11. Dombrowski wasn’t exactly the fastest mover the last two offseasons, either. But as of now, it’s stil only December 17, and the season is over 3 full months away. And most of the names taken off the board were names that didn’t fit their budget anyway. And Bloom has added a couple players, albeit unexciting ones. But both have some level of promise. But he does have to clear a lot of salary, and while he reportedly has had an offer or two for Price, what we don’t know is how much salary it would have cleared. If Team X came in and said “We’ll take Price, but we need you to kick in $65 million and we will send back another Josh Tobias type,” do you really think Bloom should be taking that deal? Or “We’ll take Price’s full contract if you take Robinson Cano’s.” (Both players are owed $96 million, but Cano’s money is over 4 years while Price’s is over 3.) While that move does put the Sox $7mill closer, it might not be enough to accomplish the goal and probably clinches the need to trade Betts. But Bloom could act hastily and screw thus team up, if that’s what you want...
  12. I think of Bloom as being more like Dickens, and Dombrowski was pure Tom Wolfe...
  13. Also according to Henry and Sam Kennedy. I think specifically he was hired to build a playoff team for a lot less money, like he did in Tampa (but not that little money)...
  14. What about Brian Daubach? For a guy with a reputation as a streaky hitter, he had nearly the same OPS (.829) for the Sox as Mike Greenwell (.831)...
  15. Especially since he was the third closer option that year, after Bailey and Hanrahan both got injured...
  16. While true, as he said nothing definitive, you were merely being redundant. It was the Debate Equivalent of “I know you are but what am I?” And you know that. I have hopes for you bringing up salient counterpoints. I know you can do better...
  17. You haven’t been this cocky since before the 2018 season...
  18. Apologies. The cultural shift was a bit much for some of us...
  19. I think he signs Cesar Puello. You heard me right. Puello is 28 and basically a AAAA hitter, not much at the plate. But somehow the man was credited with 6 Defensive Runs Saved in only 148 innings in CF. That total is the 26th highest in MLB for a three year stretch, despite Puello basically playing at all. Obviously the appeal here is that Puello is a free agent who will probably sign for a much lower amount than most other players. And if you didn't like Bradley's offense, Puello isn't going to win your heart with his bat any time soon...
  20. Would you prefer 1. 100, 90, 80 Or 2. 90, 90, 90?
  21. I don’t find the latter scenario to provide any competitive teams
  22. For a man who preaches debate techniques, I found that counterpoint substantially lacking...
  23. Yeah it has some code in it that if you trade a player with a value over a certain value, that team has to get back at least one player whose value is at least a certain percentage. Basically, it’s one of the ways that prevents a player with a value of 20 being equal to 10 players with a value of 2. As that is unrealistic. In this deal, I think San Diego giving up Campusano and getting back no real value killed this deal...
  24. I think you’re looking to deep into the location and not enough at the fact that he bought his wife a cow for their anniversary!!!. Also worth noting, after that gift, she didn’t leave him. That should say gallons about them as a couple and is everything you need to know about whether or not he’d have signed in Boston for that same money...
  25. Hey I have a daughter too...
