  1. It's been done before...
  2. The biggest difference was at least we had some minor league talent to cover the bad contracts under Cherington (who technically did not sign Craig)...
  3. .... alongside Mauricio Dubon. Although the “regrettable trade” with Milwaukee was actually one of his fairer deals upfront. It was just killed by an injury...
  4. I will point out it is a bit condescending to simply call it any sort of discrimination. Your list has only 20 names and spans 111 years. This alone shows how incredibly rare it is, that the number of teenagers to make MLB opening day rosters is slightly greater the number of men who walked on the moon. Myself, I think no player should ever be promoted until they have a full season of AA ball. But teams all have their own, probably more complicated criteria...
  5. Not saying it applies to any player (and teams deny doing it), but some players are held down for service time reasons...
  6. It’s also only one half of the complaint. One way to survive expensive, unproductive contracts is to have a farm that supplies cheap productivity (through either promotion or trade). Dombrowski inherited one. Bloom did not...
  7. All of which begs one incredibly obvious question...
  8. He had COVID 19!!! He hasn’t fully recovered yet! There was a story a week ago about how he finds himself still getting weak and exhausted quickly. Might as well call Sale a jabroni because he hasn’t thrown a pitch this year...
  9. He’d still be better than 4/5 of the Sox current rotation...
  10. As opposed to the “His stats were unexviting for the first 35 innings so clearly he was nothing” argument?
  11. A .915 OPS at age 24 is not exceptional?
  12. Also to provide minimum wage value so you can retain superstar players. Betts did extend with the team that’s paying guys like Lux, May, Smith, Gonsolin, and Bellinger dirt cheap wages all around...
  13. Moncada’s not exceptional?
  14. Right. Because if they don’t have. Cy Young Award by the time they’re 23, their obviously Career Minor League Material...
  15. Well, Urshela has crushed the ball this year against the Red Sox and their Long Island Ducks pitching staff. Against the rest of MLB? Not so much Urshela vs. Red Sox - 1.266 OPS Urshela vs rest of MLB - .761 OPS
  16. There is a difference between getting smeared on the way out the door and actually having a bad reputation. Francona, for example, clearly still had a stellar one. He had a job offer before that same door slammed shut. Duquette, on the other hand, was unemployed for several years before Baltimore gave him another chance...
  17. I feel that way about 6 and 7 year contracts, just that it happens with lesser players...
  18. I think it’s a personnel issue. The Yankees have some talented hitters, but they have also filled their lineup with players jettisoned from other teams who miraculously “figured out” how to hit in the Bronx. Guys like Urshela, Grigorius, Tauchman, Hicks, and Voit. Maybe Cashman finds the occasional diamond in the rough, but his track record recently has leap-frogged over “ridiculous” and straight into “suspicious”...
  19. To be fair, I am not sure anyone in the front office ever had that plan...
  20. It was a $220mill .500 team with no farm system...
  21. Dombrowski, Duquette and who?
  22. Is that how Epstein left Boston?
  23. I think we can, but not because of Dombrowski. Had DD not been fired and was still running this team, what do you suppose it would look like?
  24. Like how Detroit had just the one bad year?
  25. I wasn’t sure they’d offer. When you look at the deals they keep giving to Kershaw, it’s not like that team has a history of giving mega extensions to players...
