  1. Simulator says the closest filler piece is Darwinzon Hernandez, which is a deal I don’t make.
  2. Why would the Padres want JBJ? They’ve already rebuilt their OF and have been unloading outfielders for half the off-season...
  3. Everybody gets that. That doesn’t make it useless.
  4. He plays great D and Cora is a fan, but I am intrigued by the defensive metrics of the likely cheaper Cesar Puello. Neither will hit. But I would like to see the Sox sign Puello as a fourth OF.
  5. If the Sox had any glaring needs beyond SP, dealing ERod makes sense. But if they’re basically keeping Betts, Bradley, Benintendi, Devers,Bogaerts, Vazquez and Chavis, all trading ERod does is create a void in the rotation. The Sox seem to be collecting 2b candidates and aren’t likely to deal ERod there. And dealing ERod for a pitcher better than ERod isn’t the easiest proposition. So what does trading him accomplish?
  6. My simpler version I posted a while back was Bradley plus $5mill for Smith. Smith is absolutely expendable there, much like Lamb in AZ. So they’re good targets. But I’m not wild about Marisnick or the oft-injured Matz. I would not mind seeing Bradley to AZ for Lamb, with AZ also sending RHP prospect Matt Tabor to either Oakland (Skye Bolt) or Philly (Roman Quinn) for a CF to come back to Boston. Of course, if this is true about being competitive trumping the tax reset, why deal Bradley at all? Although I do think getting a LHH 1b and maybe bullpen help should be of some priority for the Sox...
  7. A JBJ for Lamb trade makes sense for both teams with the right addendum. Lamb is listed at the backup 1b and 3b and was a surprise tender. Lamb settled for $5.5 mill for this ripple. Meanwhile, MLB.com lists Ketel Marte as starting at both 2b and CF, which is obviously not happening. If they could deal a backup INF for a starting CF, they need to do it. The Red Sox would certainly save some cash towards the cap, but also need a new CF. So Arizona should include something to help the Sox full this role...
  8. We’re talking about 2 players with a combined 14 games in High A ball as the highest level they’ve reached. 2021 might be wishful thinking. Slow down, Casas was in high school 3 years ago. Brian Mata and Bobby Dalbec are more important to the immediate future.
  9. Yes but that is true for all trade speculation done by non-GMs. All that site does is say a trade is fair based on the projections they use. Perfect or not, the framework for trades on that site are still better than 99.999999999999% of trades fans dream up on the kajillion baseball-themed boards on the Internet. Not sure why so many like to say “BUT ITS NOT PERFECT!” as some sort of criticism. Exactly what is?
  10. The site is less than a year old, but they do seem to make lots of adjustments. They also accept feedback from fans on some player values right through the message boards
  11. There’s actually a decent market for Bradley right now. The CF free agent market is depleted, and the trade market is headlined by Bradley and Starling Marte. Bradley has the disadvantage of having one year left and being represented by Scott Boras. Marte is controlled for longer, but there are questions surrounding his ability to even play CF anymore. The Diamondbacks and Mets are two teams currently looking for CF help...
  12. That happens all the time there. Any real life trade gets posted. Many don’t work out with their numbers and requiring “fudging” by adding money. A lot of them that don’t work out are actually pretty close. Sometimes the values they use just are not realistic. But sometimes GMs make stupid deals, which isn’t really their fault. If the website existed at the time, I’m 100000% positive it would have never accepted that Shelby Miller-Dansby Swanson trade. But that wouldn’t be a flaw. The whole world knew that was a bad trade except one guy. Unfortunately for Diamondback fans, that one guy was their GM at the time (Dave Stewart, I believe.)
  13. To me the most overvalued player on that site is Barnes. That’s a lot of surplus value for a relief pitcher who cannot pitch on back-to-back days...
  14. But they do factor in salary and future performance experience projections, which is all that site really does. The biggest flaw in that site is that’s all it does. But there is no programming logic in existence to account for a GMs desire to acquire or deal a certain player...
  15. If the Sox want defense at 2b and the budget is as Shaughnessy tells us Henry says, then the Sox should just sign Yolmer Sanchez. But otherwise, this doesn’t look like a position the Sox plan on spending money on. Tzu-Wei Lin and Jose Peraza might be a platoon here...
  16. The spending dry spell is over. Trevor Hildenberger is on board. (Actually it’s a minor league deal. So it’s a good thing.)
  17. And that everything they do is recorded for use against them ...
  18. Actually I think his case against the Yankees is pretty solid...
  19. I thought Tarpley was supposed to be the incentive to get a team to take Happ's salary. I guess you're stuck with Happ now...
  20. The overwhelming majority were AAAA retreads who’d all struggled and failed to impress in previous MLB appearances. Did anyone really expect anything out of Gorkys Hernandez, Chris Owings or Josh Smith?
  21. Not all that. It’s just easier. Plus it sends a better message to the kids about stealing...
  22. He was DFAd, but he’s still part of the Sox organization until he either gets traded, waived or refuses assignment...
  23. More so than prune-faced medical staff?
  24. Or... just call everybody out at second base...
  25. I don’t recall you making that statement...
