  1. Always. If the Earth was crashing into the sun, the only good to come out of it is at least the Yankees wouldn’t win that day...
  2. I think I might prefer Matt Hall and Colten Brewer over Hart and Mazza. But it’s not like there is an obvious right choice. Other than that preference of mine, it is possible. Although the Sox might want Yairo Munoz on the roster as well. If they do plan to keep the former Cardinal malcontent, Chavis is the only non-starting position player with options. Or they could work out a deal for Arauz...
  3. Possibly. But will any team ever be in a position that a 10 game winning streak can’t get you in the expanded post season?
  4. Since teams will only be playing intradivisional games and inter league games against the mirror division, this should not be a huge problem, although it does apply to Tampa and Miami...
  5. So now that the season is on the schedule, the Sox can try to reset. But is there any minimum number of games required for the reset to be official? If the Sox play one regular season game, and a COVID outbreak derails the season again, does it count?
  6. Health and Safety protocols reached https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/06/players-intend-to-report-by-july-1.html
  7. Well, Jonathan Arauz will be one do they can bury him on the bench and fulfill their Rule 5 obligation. I suspect 3 or 4 will be pitchers since there will be so few days off. So maybe Jeff Springs, Matt Hall, Josh Osich and Colten Brewer are in play. Yairo Munoz is another player likely to get considered..,
  8. Loser puts “I owe [winner] $100” as a signature line?
  9. How should I respond? What would Brian Boitano do?
  10. Season starts July 24. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/06/players-intend-to-report-by-july-1.html I do wish it would start sooner...
  11. I’ll consider that a confirmation...
  12. I think there was a recommendation/suggestion that teams would finish spring training at their actual home parks, although no idea whatever happened with that...
  13. Some rule changes to accommodate the abbreviated season. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/06/latest-on-potential-2020-rules-changes.html
  14. Per Rotoworld, players agree to report by July 1...
  15. Rotoworld is trotting they expect the players to approve the plan...
  16. I think there will be some resumption of spring training. Actual regular season might be closer to late July...
  17. Surprise! Surprise! It’s on! https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/06/mlb-annnounces-2020-season.html
  18. I have not been to Fenway since Mookie's career started, but how is he treated by fans? I know most fans absolutely LOVE him, but anyone ever hear or hear about epithets in his direction? I was wondering in light of the news about Torii hunter and Adam Jones, and what we all knew about Carl Crawford and what someone (you?) said about Jim Rice on another thread. Anyone ever hear fans saying anything derogatory about Betts? If anything like that ever happened to Betts, it obviously would make him coming back a pure fantasy, season or not...
  19. And the players voted against the proposal. Looking more and more like no abbreviated season...
  20. One bad thing about no season - it guarantees Mookie does not return. Mookie gets his year of service time and becomes a free agent regardless of actual play. But with no season, the Sox cannot reset, which kills any chance to bring Mookie back And then there’s the Dodgers, unlikely to let Mookie walk without ever donning a uniform. Although signing him could have ramifications on their ability to retain a couple of their own stars...
  21. There is no way they can guarantee that. An outbreak within a single clubhouse could easily end the season prematurely...
  22. Even if a season starts, how likely is it to end?
  23. Outside of maybe agriculture and medicine, doesn’t that apply to everything? The human race survived for a couple million years before they figured out how to take advantage of the fact that round things roll. Let’s not pretend arts and athletics are the only luxuries we have...
  24. That description seems more fitting for football/rugby...
