Yeah but I used it in a negative sense. My words were “there’s no guarantee....” I get that Graterol’s health scared them, but the Sox need pitching anywhere they can get it. And these Robert Stock types from the waiver wire are not likely to be the cure. Obviously Bloom does have way more knowledge about it than me. He has reviewed the medical data and probably gone over it with doctors. Heck, if you handed me Graterol’s medical file, the only thing I could make from it is a fleet of paper airplanes. But I still liked the idea of getting a badly needed pitcher. And a pitcher who can hit 100 made it even cooler...

Most of your post actually makes a better case that Graterol is more valuable than Downs. Also, Major Leaguers are more valuable than players with 12 games above A ball...

Jeter Downs has played 12 games above A ball in his career. The “stud” talk might be premature. There’s no guarantee he ever even plays Major League Baseball, let alone locks anything down for years...

Yes by some measures Downs is a more valuable asset, but the Sox need Graterol or someone like him more. Not sure why you think "this year" matters for the deal. Graterol would be controlled through the 2025 season...

THey will. But unlikely they get much in return. I predict this year's trade deadline won't involve any marquee prospects. No team is going to give up too much on the off chance there is no post-season. OK, maybe for players controlled for 2021 and beyond. But not for rentals...

I hear they’re going to use a system like the one for jury duty. Basically you get a letter in the mail, read it, and think “Oh s***. I’m pitching for the Marlins tomorrow night. I need to find a way to get out of this.”

I liked getting Verdugo. But I loved the deal when Graterol was involved. But to be fair, Bloom did help make a very good pitching staff in Tampa. I just think he dropped tha ball here...

He also came from an organization that liked career minor leaguers (Anderson/Drake) in the bullpen, and it’s worked out spectacularly. Does that mean guys like Stock and Gonscalves might actually become worthwhile? Gotta say, the early returns on his “career minor leaguer” plan are not so good...

1. The potential free agents are Workman and Bradley. History has shown that position players don’t net great returns at the deadline, so JBJs hot start probably matters little. Relievers, on the other hand, typically net great returns. Roenicke needs to get Workman some IP. 2. I don’t see the rush, or the harm here. 3. No. Minor league pitching needs to be acquired. The Sox have what, maybe 3 or 4 pitchers capable of pitching a full season of MLB in the entire minor league system. 4. Chavis should be trade bait. Benintendi signed a cheap extension, and was extremely good in 2018. One bad year plus 4 games shouldn’t put him on the block. 5. Roenicke looks dumb, but he’s been dealt a truly horrible hand. He has a good history as a manager in Milwaukee. 6. How? And why? Next year, if ERod and Sale are back, this team starts looking solid again. The biggest thing the Sox need is for the season to reach August 31, so the reset matters. Otherwise, look for similar issues in 2021, although the pitching might not be this horrid...

They list by 5 runs and are 1-4. I have zero problems with a Peraza and his aggressive learning curve. He’s not in the top ten for problems on this team...
