  1. Did you read the article? It does say Verdugo might miss the start of the season, but it also says he also might not. Such is the nature of uncertainty. It also says Verdugo’s back was a factor in signing a Pillar, but that all 3 outfielders hit left handed was also a factor. So far, there is no real reason to be concerned beyond Dr. Kevin Kennedy and his questionable medical credentials. If the Sox signed a higher quality replacement like Yasiel Puig, that might be a stronger indication of how little they expect Verdugo to play...
  2. Exactly. Unless you’re worried about the progress of Mike Kickham...
  3. Tell me why I should take the words of you or Kevin Kennedy over the Sox medical staff...
  4. Gotta love how people are dumping on JBJ to rally around Kevin Pillar like it's some big upgrade. They're basically the same player...
  5. I'm on the short list that is intrigued by Yasiel Puig. But I think we can all agree he isn't very likely anyway...
  6. ACtually I would take that in th bullpen. I wouldn't get too excited about Cashner in the rotation, however...
  7. I'd give minor league contracts to Hellickson and Buchholz. If McHugh is healthy, he's worth an MLB contract. Hellickson might be as well. On the fence there...
  8. I'd move to a planet further from the sun, just so I could take that medical opinion for even more days per year...
  9. So you're going with the medical opinion of Kevin Kennedy then? Remind me again, what does Kevin Kennedy do right?
  10. Ditto. Mine says "Content Is Not Available Right Now."
  11. 1. The Dodgers primary trading goal was to keep Lux and May. Their farm is loaded to the point they can part with Verdugo since he can be replaced by Betts this coming year and then by the next-in-line prospect (DJ Peters?) in 2021 if they can’t extend Betts. 2. The Dodgers do intend to try to extend Betts. 3. While many have expressed a lack of confidence in the Sox medical staff, I don’t get why their opinion is valued less than the medical opinion of Kevin Kennedy. 4. So you think the Sox should hold Betts and get nothing but a draft pick when he walks?
  12. Yeah. LEAD THEM TO A SUPER BOWL!!
  13. That’s a bizarrely specific level of certainty...
  14. I’ve been griping about Eovaldi since before the ink dried. I had mixed emotions about the Sale extension. On one hand, to get him for so few years at that price, it almost screamed “SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH HIM!!!” On the other hand, this is Chris Freakin’ Sale...
  15. The buzzer story is probably just crap. I seriously doubt any story broken by a Twitter user claiming to be Carlos Beltran’s niece...
  16. The Sox clearly gave physicals. See Graterol, Brusdar. Apparently they were not as concerned about Verdugo’s back as Kevin Kennedy is...
  17. Yeah they might have asked around. Really the reports on him in AAA a couple years ago were “this guy doesn’t belong here.” But I think it’s going to take a lot of stars aligning to get him to Boston...
  18. Well, there is some consolation in that he doesn’t inhibit other acquisitions (as much?). And had Castillo been claimed, it would have been for full price...
  19. Yeah I was on the fence with him...
  20. Yeah, he basically made what the Sox paid last year. But his $10mill AAV at least does not count towards the penalties or any potential reset...
  21. Some free agents who still (modestly) appeal to me Brian Dozier. Clay Buchholz (minor league deal only) Jeremy Hellickson Collin McHugh Arodys Vizcaino Tony Cingrani Not much in the way of impact players except maybe Dozier, unless Vizcaino is actually healthy for once...
  22. Probably as well as Springs, Hill and Mazza...
  23. THe only good thing about Castillo is at least he doesn't count towards the luxury tax penalty. Really, he is just a burden on Henry's wallet...
  24. No doubt Altuve's next line was "Not bad enough to return our World Series money, but pretty bad. Yeah. Like how you feel when you hit a car in the parking lot and drive away without leaving a note. We feel THAT bad."
