Even if Verdugo misses April, they have him for FIVE YEARS. If they did not make the deal, they had Betts for one year. This deal was not just about 2020, and, as mvp said, they clearly wanted Verdugo and did not think the back injury was serious enough to jeopardize his career for five years.
