  1. Sure Downs could be traded. But a bird in the hand. Hey I’ve been saying on here for months that I liked the deal better with Graterol...
  2. And Bloom is the worst hitter of the three!!!!
  3. Yes by some measures Downs is a more valuable asset, but the Sox need Graterol or someone like him more. Not sure why you think "this year" matters for the deal. Graterol would be controlled through the 2025 season...
  4. THey will. But unlikely they get much in return. I predict this year's trade deadline won't involve any marquee prospects. No team is going to give up too much on the off chance there is no post-season. OK, maybe for players controlled for 2021 and beyond. But not for rentals...
  5. Not this time. Although he could deal Jeter Downs for a decent arm and it might work out...
  6. I hear they’re going to use a system like the one for jury duty. Basically you get a letter in the mail, read it, and think “Oh s***. I’m pitching for the Marlins tomorrow night. I need to find a way to get out of this.”
  7. I liked getting Verdugo. But I loved the deal when Graterol was involved. But to be fair, Bloom did help make a very good pitching staff in Tampa. I just think he dropped tha ball here...
  8. To make the Betts deal questionable https://www.yahoo.com/sports/pitching-starved-red-sox-refused-150646165.html
  9. He also came from an organization that liked career minor leaguers (Anderson/Drake) in the bullpen, and it’s worked out spectacularly. Does that mean guys like Stock and Gonscalves might actually become worthwhile? Gotta say, the early returns on his “career minor leaguer” plan are not so good...
  10. 1. The potential free agents are Workman and Bradley. History has shown that position players don’t net great returns at the deadline, so JBJs hot start probably matters little. Relievers, on the other hand, typically net great returns. Roenicke needs to get Workman some IP. 2. I don’t see the rush, or the harm here. 3. No. Minor league pitching needs to be acquired. The Sox have what, maybe 3 or 4 pitchers capable of pitching a full season of MLB in the entire minor league system. 4. Chavis should be trade bait. Benintendi signed a cheap extension, and was extremely good in 2018. One bad year plus 4 games shouldn’t put him on the block. 5. Roenicke looks dumb, but he’s been dealt a truly horrible hand. He has a good history as a manager in Milwaukee. 6. How? And why? Next year, if ERod and Sale are back, this team starts looking solid again. The biggest thing the Sox need is for the season to reach August 31, so the reset matters. Otherwise, look for similar issues in 2021, although the pitching might not be this horrid...
  11. Seriously. I understand the occasional mistake. But keep the politics on the political thread. It’s getting obvious that you respect nobody’s wishes that way...
  12. They list by 5 runs and are 1-4. I have zero problems with a Peraza and his aggressive learning curve. He’s not in the top ten for problems on this team...
  13. Lindor is far, far more likely than Devers to merit a Mookie/Trout type deal....
  14. Did I ? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/06/latest-on-potential-2020-rules-changes.html
  15. The Mets DFAd someone named Tyler Bashlor who is apparently a pitcher. He seems to meet Bloom’s criteria 1. Works cheap 2. No one has ever heard of him Check and check...
  16. And while that’s a great start, will it hold until August 31?
  17. If the Yankees sign Lindor, they likely cannot afford Judge. If the Dodgers sign him, it gets that much tougher to retain Bellinger. Also, the overlooked Corey Seager becomes available...
  18. And his two best SPs out...
  19. No kidding. Travis Shaw was too expensive for him. When the extremely mediocre Travis Shaw is out of your price range, expectations need to be tempered...
  20. But a 20-40 stretch is not the same as a 54-108 record. A 20-40 "season" this year is just a bad start in other years. The 2005 Astros, for example, started out 15-30 (.333) and were 25-35 after 60 games. They also went on to lose the World Series that year. And bear in mind, the Sox have no Sale and no ERod. If those two pitchers are in the rotation, is this a 20-40 team?
  21. The only question is - can they fit a $6mill pitcher on the team and still reset? They can and likely will clear some salary in August as, let’s face it, they’re sellers. (Foltynewicz has one arbitration year left, so he’s not likely traded.). Trading Bradley would certainly allow Foltynewicz to fit. But other trade candidates like Workman ($3.5 mill) and Pillar ($4mill) don’t provide as much relief. And those are the Sox big likely trade chips....
  22. Not sure why you expected more from the NFL. The NCAA schools at least have other means for making money. Tuition. Donations from alumni. If the NFL is not playing football, what else do they have?
  23. Not likely. He was handed a mess and told to cut salary. He did that. He was not expected to win this season..
