  1. I think if they take back a bad (but not so bad) contract, like Kingery, the bullpen-deficient Phillies might be willing to listen on a Major League arm that has untapped potential but is simply not working out, like Nick Pivetta or Vince Velasquez. FWIW, a trade of Workman for Kingery and Pivetta on the infamous baseballtradevalues.com simulator is acceptable, and a trade of Workman for Kingery and Velasquez is a minor overpay. A trade of Barnes and Workman for Kingery, Pivetta, and Velasquez is acceptable...
  2. So what should the Sox focus on at the trade deadline? Starting pitching is good. Although of Sale and ERod are back next year (a big if), it might not be their weakness. And it’s not like anyone will surrender an elite pitching prospect this year. Bullpen looks pathetic going forward. 2b is a mess of utility players. CF should be open, too. And Duran is unlikely to step in and fill that gap in 2021. Thoughts?
  3. I’ve heard multiple times that players view free agency as something they have “worked for their entire lives.”
  4. Because no one else will give him more? Like I said, a very similar player in Kevin Pillar only got about 1/2 of what Bradley is making. After this season, it actually is extremely likely Bradley will be looking at a much much lower salary. It's not like he is going to struggle to put food on the table. He'll still be a very wealthy man (and living a dream for most of us). But he will certainly be a wealthy man making less money in 2021 in whatever city, which could be Boston. But probably not...
  5. JBJ at $11mill or Pillar at $4mill? Which one gives you a better shot at Trevor Bauer?
  6. I think JBJ is likely gone after this year. Unless he is willing to take a paycut
  7. You can’t say the Sox don’t spend. They have the third highest payroll in MLB...
  8. The Sox would definitely be more entertaining with Betts. They’d still suck, however, because you need a few Mookie Betts’s to overcome this pitching staff...
  9. It only works out like this if you have to rely on them for starters...
  10. Exactly. This rotation is shrapnel...
  11. ... with nothing to spend? Seriously? All he had budget for was one mediocre SP (Perez) and some long shots. And that’s the thing about long shots. They miss more often than not..
  12. Id actually take three straight 95 win seasons with no titles over the 2018 team and this dumpster fire. Titles are great, but I really just want to be entertained. This team is not entertaining me....
  13. Method 3 is the ONLY way, especially if you believe having a good farm system = small market. Heavy spending is actually a proven deathnail. I know a lot of people say they’re ok with the inevitable bad years if they get one title, but they do one mean it. Want proof? Read any thread on this board. And then ask yourself how many times a complaint has ended with the phrase “But 2018 made it all worthwhile”....
  14. No. Method 2 is the one where you sometimes cannot afford your best players. It was the contracts of Eovaldi, Price and Sale that made Betts unaffordable, not the development of Devers, Benintendi and Vazquez...
  15. The problem with Method 2 is that when it fails - and it absolutely will one day - it will ruin your franchise for years...
  16. And outside of Perez, he didn’t sign anyone to anything more than a minor league contract...
  17. It’s hard to inspire this Long Island Ducks staff to handle MLB pitchers. I’ll also hold my evaluation of Bloom until he has actual resources at his disposal. Who was Bloom’s most expensive addition last off-season?
  18. Serious, but also nearsighted. The whole “the team is losing so every player stinks” is a mass oversimplification. So you’re saying no MLB team would want Bogaerts or Devers? I expect the Sox to trade Workman and Barnes, and possibly Hembree. But that might be a bit much as the big obstacle will be how many teams want to make deals knowing the post season might be cancelled...
  19. Unless Varitek comes with 3 starting pitchers, nothing will change...
  20. How is any of this Roenicke’s fault? You did see the Sox pitching staff, right?
  21. Stop with the “cast the first stone argument.” Is it too much to expect professional athletes and coaches to not cheat?
  22. The Sox probably could have kept Betts, but DD prioritized Sale and Eovaldi. If we had Betts with this pitching staff, would this team really be any better?
  23. After next year, Rizzo, Bryant and Baez are all free agents (assuming they pick up Rizzo’s option after this year). Think they don’t trade any of them?
  24. Dalbec is worth a shot. Downs is an A ball player and Duran has struggled in AA. Houck and Mata are worth a try. Groome has barely pitched in the past 4 years. And Song is in the Navy...
  25. To make it offer, the Rockies weren’t down 3 starters...
