  1. I read somewhere Harrison was working on both a new pitch and a new grip for an existing pitch. If so, that would explain not only his mediocre numbers to start in Worcester, but also why other itcherscwere primoted first. of course the Early promotion is silly to count against Harrison; Kyle was to be promoted last week (earlier than Early) but instead injured his ankle…
  2. Absolutely. The Sox were wrong to keep Ortiz especially in the 2013 ALCS. I mean, other than one measly game-tying grand slam in the 8th inning of game two and prevented the Sox from going down 0-2 at Fenway, what exactly did he do in that series?
  3. Definitely not Phillips as his pick was a direct result. The Sox might have taken Eyanson anyway and saved bonus money on another pick. Maybe they don’t take Godbout and draft a more singable player instead. Whether or not there is a penalty system is immaterial. Most teams have budgets for signing pucks and the system for DECADES was to draft signable players and let the higher ranked picks fall as needed.
  4. Since folks are still hung up on the trade deadline activities not being as happy as we needed, Joe Ryan has been getting torched since the Sox failed to acquire him. He’s been barely better than May, but would have come for a much more significant cost. Time to let go of Ryan…
  5. He clearly did try to secure another arm - Dustin May. Just because a trade doesn’t produce the desired results doesn’t mean it didn’t happen …
  6. Ok but why the accusation that he lacks interpersonal skills?
  7. Does he? What are we basing this on? Hopefully not TV appearances. Theres a big difference between having interpersonal skills and handling yourself in a press conference. I speak from experience. Always had some social awkwardness, but I was always and still am a terrific public speaker. Go figure…
  8. Or the AGon/Crawford trade where the Sox unloaded a boatload of salary commitments for absolutely nothing. I think the most productive player they acquired was Wade Miley, who was only linked to that trade indirectly (acquired from RHPs Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster, both of whom were acquired from LAD) and who still stunk ( and was apparently a very unpleasant human being).
  9. Really it comes down to that by including a pick, Milwaukee essentially upped the Sox draft pool money. But Milwaukee had nothing to do with how Boston allocated that money. Its like that Bible story - and I will do my best here - where the master gives each of his three servants several talents (which were large sums of money) and the one loser servant buries them in the backyard. Meanwhile the second one built a house of sticks or something while the third one drafted Marcus Phillips and used the savings on a later round pick. So the master naturally chastised the one who buried them, until he learned they had blockchained into Bitcoin. Sunday school was a long time ago and clearly too early in the morning. Bottom line - don’t drink and drive. Plus no one credits the master for anything in that parable…
  10. That’s a stretch. While I get your point that the money saved helped sign Eyanson, the Sox were going to draft someone in that slot regardless. It’s not like they even knew Eyanson would still be on the board. It’s like saying taking Williams Jerez was a good second round pick because the Sox saved enough money to go way over slot on Mookie Betts. Phillips was from a pick in that deal the Sox otherwise dont have. It’s not the same…
  11. Any chance Arizona hires you to be CBO in the next 3 months?
  12. Torres isnt horrible, but Marte might be the best second baseman in MLB. Bellinger is unlikely to leave the Bronx, especially if they can retain Grisham (Trent, not John), which the Yankees really should do. Alonso is an obvious monster at Fenway. His future is unclear, since it odds hard to see the Mets letting him walk. But at some point, they will stop spending. Just not sure he is where.
  13. BTV accepts Duran, Clarke and Hamilton for Marte. I doubt Hamilton’s inclusion is a dealbreaker. The Sox have plenty of equally valued replacements in their farm to plug in instead. Would AZ accept this? They are loaded with young outfielders, but only Carroll doesn’t suck. No one is turning down Duran because they already have Jake McCarthy…
  14. Internally, Mikey Romero. Or bring on someone like Luis Rengifo. Or both, which happens if they sign Rengifo…
  15. I will ask Mike Hazen. Marte is a tremendous talent but appears to have started wearing out his welcome in Arizona…
  16. If the Sox cannot retain Bregman, maybe they should move on Ketel Marte and solidify 2b for the first time since Pedroia. Mayer, if healthy, can resume playing 3b…
  17. I’ve seen Keller pitch multiple times this year, including live games at Wrigley. Keller was one of those guys I recommended Boston acquire multiple times, knowingly giving the rather mediocre Keller more attention than he ever really deserved. Always loved his fastball velocity. But when Boston finally did get him, it just didn’t work out. So his transformation in Chicago has been remarkable…
  18. Definitely not one of his better moves. If you’re a pitcher, it would seem that nothing predicates a great season for you more than being traded away by Craig Breslow…
  19. Because it’s one game, and one started by a rookie making his second start. I wouldn’t condemn the rotation based on one bad full turn, let alone one bad individual start…
  20. Refsnyder is not a good runner. His sprint speed is on the 30th percentile. The only Sox players slower are Bregman, Yoshida, Lowe, Narvaez and Casas. Probably Sánchez, too, but there is no data on him…
  21. I’d put the chances that the Sox offer Lowe arbitration in the 0-10% range. I think he gets non-tendered and reaches free agency. Now, the Sox can still sign him at that point, but can do so for less than $10-12mill. And Lowe isnt going to have much of any appeal to the big spending teams like the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Cubs, so the bigger offers are not as likely to roll in. Even if Alonso walks, the Mets are NOT going to sell their fanbase on Nate Lowe as an acceptable replacement. Goldschmidt is likely done in the Bronx (and possibly all of MLB) after this year. But why bother with Lowe when you have Cody Bellinger? Bringing back Grisham and keeping Cody at 1b makes much, much more sense…
  22. Lowe is still in his arbitration years. He makes $10.3mill this year and is likely looking at $12-13mill next season, with only one year to go before free agency. With Casas coming back and Campbell still in tow, Lowe is a potential non-tender candidate. I like him better than Casas, but Casas will be A LOT cheaper. Like $10-12 mill cheaper…
  23. Worst hitter vs LHP or not, Lowe is a Gold Glove caliber 1b. The downside to platooning is that one of the players is a worse defender. Sometimes it might be ok to let the inferior batter hit against the same side pitcher if he can defend his position…
  24. Recall Password (Ghost) and put him in RF. Other than Eaton, he’s the only defensive option. And Jhostnyxon, unlike Eaton, at least has offensive potential. If not actual offense…
  25. Batting order aside, the Sox defensive alignment for the rest of the season should be: C - Narvaez and Wong. Sánchez is for emergencies only. 1b - Lowe 2b - Hamilton vs RHP; Romy vs LHP 3b - Bregman SS - Story LF - Duran CF - Rafaela RF - Password aka Ghost DH Yoshida vs RHP; Refsnyder vs LHP.. Eaton becomes Cora’s supersub as he as has played OF, 2b and 3b…
