    Stop. Merrill Kelly is old enough to be Brady Singer’s dad. Singer just finished his age 28 season with 12.1 bWAR. Ryan just finished his age 29 season with 11 bWAR. I think there is an argument there for Singer…

    On here? Yes. In the Cincy offices? Probably none. But some clickbait Cincy guy wrote a nonsensical article about trading Hunter Greene,and trading Lodolo at the very least makes more sense than that. Now Brady Singer is a likely trade chip. And he is a very talented pitcher on par with Joe Ryan. But Singer’s issue is he only has one year left, which makes trading any MLB outfielder for him a really bad idea. Except maybe Password, but not sure Cincy wants that…

    Whats the advantage of Schwarber over Alonso? Both players come with impeccable durability. Schwarber played 150 games in 2024, which is the lowest total either played in the last 3 seasons. Schwarber’s OPS+ over the last 3 years is 135. Alonso’s is right there at 130. Alonso bats right-handed, which the Sox could use, actually plays 1b, and is a year younger. So is Schwarber’s slight offensive advantage enough to offset that Alonso actually fills more voids (right-handed power, plays 1b)?

    Polanco to 3b isn’t the worst idea. Far from it. He hasn’t played there much on his career, but his SS background suggests it wouldn’t be too difficult for him. And he’s not much for 2b anyway…

    The Sox could use Rushing, or flip him more easily than Duran since he makes no money and has more control. Hyeseoung Kim didnt do much for me. Guess basically a step down from Hamilton. Now Ha-Seoung Kim works for me..

    Exactly. The Sox have 14 starting pitchers on the 40 man roster, which is actually too many. Granted Houck is out and Criswell likely not starting. But they have depth, which is weird to say in November. So unless you’re adding to the top of the list, why bother? The Sox dont need more names at the middle or the bottom…

    I just don’t think DH is where they will be adding. They already have Casas and Yoshida, with varying degrees of offensive talent while both being defensive voids. Campbell’s also sort of fits that mold. I see them adding 1b and either 2b or 3b. And SP. And if the three names they add are Alonso, Marte and Lodolo, thats probably the best possible combo in my opinion. I’m not yet sold that Skubal and Greene are realistic targets. And I don’t think Schwarber is enough of one to be top bidder…

    I think that using the DH as a resting spot is more of a fan thing than a team thing, since no teams really do it and it is impractical in theory. Largely because fans don’t want to go to games and see, say, Roman Anthony replaced by Nate Eaton while Yoshida DHs. But I think that those “starter rest” days are more about keeping bench players active than actually resting starters…

    I think Early qualifies as a younger guy. Not sure if the pros of Merrill Kelly over Early outweigh the cons. And really, the same could be saud for Sale. If the Sox get Ryan or Lodolo, thats different. Or maybe even if they get Brady Singer. But far too many names pop up that make me think “just go with Early.”

    I think most of those guys are the depth. I get the impression Breslow isnt wild about Yoshida, but Yoshida did hit well down the stretch and in the postseason. Casas is the higher ceiling hitter, but not sure when he comes back. But when he does, DH is his best position, especially if Yoshida hasn’t run away with it. I doubt they trade away enough outfielders to get Campbell a starting job. Hes likely Worcester-bound for April if he isn’t traded himself. Mayer is a starter. Either at 2b or 3b (although SS really makes the most sense). His role depends on what the Sox acquisitions are. Romy is a specialty role player. Dont let my “Hes a better option than Arenado” viewpoint convince you I think Romy should start. My point was - Arenado shouldn’t, and argued he was a worse option than the Sox have on the bench. Romy likely settles in platooning with Mayer or Casas/Yoshida. (Although the reality is Casas shouldn’t be platooned. But, you know, Cora.)

    Yes and no. Yoshida does have options if they get a better DH. Or he at a bare minimum is capable of holding the position until Casas steps in…
