  1. John Henry. The guy who ordered the reset....
  2. Well, Smyly is a questionable source of maybe 25 innings. And I suspect either Wright or Wilson will be swapped for Kris Bryant or some other 3b. Unless the Sox want to get in their with a Dalbec trade offer...
  3. Charlie Morton is no longer a option. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/11/braves-sign-charlie-morton.html
  4. Happ would need to sign for a negative AAV for me to get excited about him. Even if he offered to pitch for free, I’d still be hesitant. Is what Happ has left any better than Mazza at this point?
  5. Unless you sign Bauer, the remaining SP are all aging or mediocre or both. Grabbing an innings-eater like Porcello is probably about the best way to go. On the trade front, I think the best places to focus are Pittsburgh (Taillon? Musgrove?) or Cleveland (McKenzie? Civale?). And to a lesser degree, Colorado (Gray? Freeland?), but that’s unlikely because Birdich has a reputation for massively overvaluing his players. Another possibility might be Detroit’s Matthew Boyd. He’s readily available and it’s possible/likely they’ve stopped asking for the world plus for him. But he isn’t a game-changer. Improvement? Yes. Game-changer? No...
  6. It is possible. The only we thing we do know is the Sox were not going to be able to bring him back without resetting, which was going to be near impossible without moving him. Moving other deals (Bogaerts, for example) might have been counterproductive if Betts still opted signing elsewhere...
  7. Although I wouldn’t mind if Bloom walked away from this free agent SP class altogether and just spent money on the bullpen (and maybe OF or 2b). Get the starters via trade
  8. Rather have Porcello...
  9. Obviously. We have plenty who solely remember Cherington for “3 last place finishes in 4 years” and NEVER acknowledge what happened in that other season...
  10. Like I said, he struggles to make contact. That’s why the Padres keep repeatedly exposing him..
  11. I do agree it’s very likely Mookie forced the issue, but DD’s massive spending (which was hardly a new tactic for him) put the Sox in a position where they had no other choice...
  12. It is possible Houck’s value changes for the better. As far as I can tell, they update players all the time and it doesn’t happen all at once with some mass update. As player projections for performance and salary change, they use them to create new values. When that website first started, they were updating multiple times per year including in August/ September, which they stopped when one annoying poster named Notin told them to just skip late season updates for periods when trades weren’t allowed anyway and go right to off-season values...
  13. Right. Henry was the problem. It’s the guy who allowed for one of the highest budgets in MLB, not the guy who decided how to spend it...
  14. That is the book on him and the thing that always held him back in San Diego. That he whiffs less than Dalbec or Chavis isn’t exactly setting a high bar...
  15. There is. Now for a website for fan amusement like BTV, this is inconsequential. The only real issue is if the Sox themselves are sold on Arroyo as the solution for 2b...
  16. Because he has positive trade value and is not needed in Boston? I think if you want to question a value of a Sox player on that website, Christian Arroyo is far more questionable. He had a value of 0 when Cleveland waived him and Boston claimed him. Then 50 at bats later, it’s a surplus value of $3.6 million. What exactly did he do in those 50 at bats? His .240/.296/.440 slash line is usually a reason to reduce a trade value, not increase it...
  17. Agreed. Chatham > Chavis. Chavis might be dealt, but he is a weak side platoon player, which limits his market. If he gets dealt, it won’t be for anything overwhelming. His best bet at sticking with Boston is due to the new 26 man roster. If the Sox have a 5!man bench, Chavis can join Plawecki on it along with an outfielder some of the others. I will say that maybe the Sox need a utility infielder capable of playing SS, but they do have Arroyo...
  18. Once again, everyone surrounding MLB is caught once again in the league wide conspiracy to undervalue Seattle Mariners’ players...
  19. Chavis can hit LHP and makes minimum wage. He has some value, but he isn’t a marquee trading chip...
  20. Former Padres’ prospect who can do everything but make contact...
  21. As he was designated for assignment, he is not a free agent just yet. The Orioles have 10 days to determine what they are going to do, and they might try to work out a trade in that timeframe before exposing him to waivers....
  22. I suppose Benintendi-Verdugo-Renfroe is a workable LF-Cf-RF alignment. Renfroe doesn’t have the speed for Fenway RF but he does have the arm...
  23. But they didn’t non-tender him...
  24. Renfroe with Benintendi in CF? Big questions. Nunez has some pluses. Maybe if they move Dalbec...
  25. Trevor Williams and Luis Perdomo were both recently designated for assignment. Neither is a massive difference maker. Both are upgrades over any two of the Fungibles - aka Stock, Springs, Mazza, Valdez, Walden and Brice...
