  1. Doesn’t make me like it any better...
  2. For now, probably. But that doesn’t mean his successful 3 start stint has him locked in. He might be the 6th starter this year, starting out in Pawtucket. He might be more of an opener than a starter. Or they might move him to the bullpen, an area that also needs help and lots of it. His role might not be as defined as we think it is today...
  3. Personally I’ve always felt Lucchino got a bad rap as a scapegoat. For a guy whose been linked to numerous winning franchises in multiple sports, he was actually pretty humble. I have always and still do hold Ben accountable for Sandoval. Hanley might not have been such a bad deal had he not injured his shoulder. Rusney had some pluses but never got a real chance and had his own injury problems. Although it is very possible DD’s original assessment that he was a 4th outfielder at best is correct. But I never liked Dombrowski’s “win now and f*** tomorrow” strategy, because it ALWAYS leads to messed up teams like the 2020 Red Sox that can take multiple seasons to fix...
  4. By that logic, the Sox should not have signed Napoli, Victorino, Drew, Dempster and Uehara after the dismal 2012 season. What was BC thinking?
  5. While Larry is the anti-a700 (aka "Desperate Dave vs Coffee Boy") in the Great GM War, does his criticism differ from what was often said of Ben?
  6. Agreed. And the Mariners are better positioned if/when the Rays make Blake Snell available, since the Seattle farm is better and they're not in the AL East. In fact, the Red Sox might be better positioned to get Taillon and/or Musgrove, since our farm has no untouchables. Sometimes these GMs focus a bit too much on the top tier guys and walk away if they cannot pry them loose. If you think about it, that's how Musgrove got to Pittsburgh in the first place, isn't it? (Hint: The Yankees refusal to part with Gleyber Torres.) So if Cherington insists on Kelenic and /or Dunn, it really helps out the Sox...
  7. Other than Feltman, it could still happen...
  8. I don’t see any issue with Pedroia repeatedly trying to come back. As former closer/reliever/Sporting News journalist Todd Jones once wrote “Make them rip the uniform off of you”...
  9. With DD, the “bashings” are just criticisms of his philosophy for building a team. Not like anyone is saying anything personal about him. GMs and managers are long standing fodder for criticisms from fans. Immediately after he invented the game, rumor has it Abner Doubleday’s first words were “Stupid time to call for a steal”...
  10. Pivetta was a perennial “stuff” guy in Philly and annual breakout candidate who never broke out. Hopefully now is the time. I doubt Groome reaches Boston in 2021. Mata might...
  11. It really doesn't need to be resolved. The absolute worst thing Pedroia could do is take up a 40 man roster spot. But even this is not an issue as the Sox have some 15-20 players who barely belong in the majors also taking up slots. So even his absolute worst is really not all that damaging, at least not this season. (And as it is the last year of his deal, it won't become an issue next year either.) If Pedroia wants to keep trying to come back, it's not a big deal. Come opening day, he'll be moved to the 60 day IL, which does NOT require a 40 man roster spot (and would actually open one up for the Sox when he gets moved there).
  12. And as you undoubtedly know, Whattsamata U is the alma mater of which famous cartoon character? If you guessed Bullwinkle, you are correct...
  13. Mid 2018? Trust me. It's better. Take me there. Also, Wright is really just a depth piece for them as they have Soroka, Fried, Newcomb, Wright, Davidson, Wilson, Muller, Anderson and just added Smyly and Morton. All of them except Muller have MLB experience. (Tucker Davidson does only have 1.2 career IP in MLB.) And they have more arms on the way, including Jasseel De La Cruz, Patrick Weigel, Freddy Tarnok, Bryce Elder, and so on and so on. Pitching is not a problem for the Braves. Austin Riley, with his -9.2 career UZR at third and his career .288 OBP (but improving) might be one area they look to improve...
  14. Also, the Braves lost Teheran to free agency a year ago and released Gausman last August. (Gausman received and accepted a Qualifying Offer from the Giants just a couple weeks ago.)
  15. I am. The Braves might keep Riley at 3b, but they do keep moving him to the OF for some reason, and it isn’t to get more playing time for Johan Camargo...
  16. I said a while back the Pirates would try to move Musgrove and Taillon and probably non-tender Trevor Williams (and Andy Frazier). So far, thy have already DFA'd Williams. They'll move Taillon. Strictly for financial purposes. Now what they want for him is another matter. (Jeter Downs for Taillon and Andy Frazier works on BTV. But is it worth it?) I'm hoping the Sox do not further deplete their already weak assortment of minor league arms. Hold on to Mata!
  17. Safe bet considering he did not sign his extension with LA until July, long after Spring Training had been cancelled and the season suspended due to COVID. So we do know what his minimum COVID World money would have looked like...
  18. But Dalbec does...
  19. Two members, if you count Bloom. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/11/yasiel-puig-looking-to-return-to-majors-in-2021.html
  20. I'm telling you... Jameson Taillon. He has had his issues, but he is a very talented pitcher with a few years of control and plays for a team on a very limited budget as he enters his arb seasons. And Bloom has had success acquiring those Pirates' former top prospects who just did not shine in Pittsburgh. (See Glasnow, Tyler)...
  21. Well, we do know they had the money and were willing to pay...
  22. I do hope at some point the Sox might consider a right-handed starting pitcher. You know, Fenway...
  23. The problem with Chatham and Chavis on BTV is that just because they have value doesn’t mean anyone wants them. I know not every combination works out on BTV, but if the Sox traded Dalbec to the Braves for any two of Kyle Wright, Bryse Wilson and Kyle Muller, I’d think it a smart move...
  24. Don’t forget about Yasiel Puig!!
  25. I’m thinking more that the Sox might swap Dalbec for Wright and/or Wilson, not Bryant..,
