  1. Whether he was coming back or not, it’s not unreasonable to think a looming pandemic that had already cancelled multiple sports season was not a factor in Betts’ decision to sign that extension ...
  2. Technically the Sox had him for a lower AAV for 2020 prior to the trade. But let’s say the Sox did sign him for that amount, what’s the luxury tax impact of keeping him and Price?
  3. Unless Betts only took it due to the unknown impact of the COVID outbreak...
  4. Another possibility is you’re being impatient Ignore Bloom’s quotes about why he didn’t trade for Snell; we both know he didn’t have the pieces and now know he was not going to answer to the press by saying “Because our farm sucks! That’s why!” When was the last big Sox off-season free agent acquisition? Have they signed a notable since JD Martinez? That was on February 26, 2018. Nearly 3 years ago. So why the belief it all started with Bloom?
  5. If you understand the need to reset, then you get why nothing happened last offseason. So that means you think November and (most of) December are the new normal. If so, the entire league has adopted those spending habits. So far, the largest free gent contract was given to James McCann and the largest AAV to 37yo Charlie Morton. Maybe we could at least try acknowledging the uncertainty from the pandemic has been a much bigger influence on league-wide spending? COVID > Chaim?
  6. Yep. Bloom missed the boat. There are no good free agents left as he took too long and Henry was too cheap. And who would have guessed the largest contract would have gone to James McCann and the largest AAV to Charlie Morton. But, hey, once those two were off the board, it was all over...
  7. Still shocked Henry gets labeled as cheap. Last year’s team was not just a complete dumpster fire, it was also a dumpster fire with the third highest payroll in MLB. Even Henry’s disasters are luxurious...
  8. But do they see him as a $25 million player over the next 2 seasons?
  9. I don’t think the trade from the Rays’ point of view would be anything but a salary dump. I do doubt they would include Pete Fairbanks and his 101mph fastball as enticement or a player they seem to like. But if the Sox offered a token player like Arauz or Wilson for Kiermaier straight up, I would be surprised if they declined. The main reason they might is because the status of Arozarena is in a bit of flux right now... I
  10. Yes but they were reportedly contemplating moving Kiermaier this off-season. Morton was already off the books and therefore not a new factor to be considered...
  11. Of course it’s also possible they just dealt Darvish as a sell high maneuver. In the first two seasons of that deal, he only gave them 89 IP total. They might have been worried about more of that level of consistency from him from ages 34 thru 36...
  12. Profar can play OF but his 2b skills have come into question. Why do you suppose they avoid Bradley and Hand? Bloom is far better known for strengthening bullpens over rotations...
  13. Well, they didn’t cut Morton loose so much as watch him reach free agency. Point being they knew his salary was already gone (as Glenn Frey used to say) during any period where they were contemplating moving Kiermaier...
  14. I know very little about them except Muzziotti, whose been moving up in the Phillies’ system...
  15. Incorrect. He made Spicoli share it...
  16. The Cubs are in an unenviable position where after 2021, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez are all free agents. They need some young, cheap talent to supplement whichever one if any they decide to keep...
  17. Of course he wants $36 mill per year. He cannot sign for a lower AAV than his arch-rival Gerrit Cole. I think the Sox should offer him 2 years $74mill. Just to see how petty he is...
  18. I'm on board. Although I think he signs a 2B in there somewhere, especially given the abundance on the market. And hopefully the relievers are Bradley and Hand...
  19. It certainly had that effect. Although it can be tough to tell without knowing who the Sox would have signed on the International Market. Who were the five signees the Sox lost?
  20. But that sanction got us Sale, so all is forgiven...
  21. I think he is being sarcastic. Web forums are not the best medium for that, however...
  22. I can’t say Contreras is the preferred target, but having him out there certainly cuts into Vazquez’ appeal. But I don’t think the Sox are positioned as they once were to deal Vazquez, and his replacement is even foggier. I suppose the Sox could over complicate things and try to acquire via trade someone like Austin Hedges or Tucker Barnhart, as both teams are clearly cutting costs...
  23. 1. You know I am aware of that site. 2. How is it relevant to my point?
  24. Per MLBTR, the Cubs are aggressively shopping Willson Contreras, who is essentially the same player as Vazquez, and could earn very similar amounts in 2021 and 2022. Contreras was worth 5.1 fWAR with 3 DRS in the past 3 seasons, Vazquez was worth 5.3 fWAR and 5 DRS in that same time frame. Sorta makes it harder to deal Vazquez...
  25. The Twins signed Hansel Robles. Robles was one third of the set of relievers I suggested the Sox sign two from. (And yes, I am ending that sentence with a preposition. Deal with it.) Now Bloom needs to gout and get Hand and Bradley...
