  1. There have been so few pitchers - maybe less than3 per season on average - who come over Asia that evaluating the imports is hampered by the small sample size. That said, the Asian import relief pitchers have had numerous success stories, like Koji Uehara, Kasahiro Sasaki, Taki Saito, Shigetoshi Hasegawa, and Hideki Okajami, and probably a few others...
  2. Why? It’s not like there has been a wave of salary dumps lately...
  3. Or what would the Orioles use to entice a team to take one year of Alex Cobb at $15mill? Cobb has not been worth the money and has had his share of health issues, but he is a guy Bloom is familiar with and has shown flashes of serious ability...
  4. They've been trying to pawn off Odor's deal for a while now...
  5. Like Brad Hand
  6. It is very possible his interest was overstated. If this guy is like, say, Kikuchi, the Sox might be better off with Matt Andriese on a 1 year deal...
  7. Chicago is the Satan’s Ski Resort....
  8. Sox might be interested, and he would be a nice addition, but I think someone else will make a comparable offer to keep him at shortstop as opposed to the one the Sox make to move him to 2b. Now a deal with Cincy for, say Tyler Mahle and Mike Moustakas might be more along the lines of something I expect...
  9. I think the Sox chose Price and Eovaldi...
  10. Range Factor is worthless unless comparing two players who play the same position on the same team...
  11. What if I said he was Mike Schmidt 2.0?
  12. I think he’s Russ Branyan 2.0. I also wonder why people think that’s a bad thing...
  13. So you’re more sold on Dalbec than Benintendi? Despite his struggles last year, AB is still only one year older...
  14. But Bloom didn’t sign any MLB role players last year. Just a bunch of career minor leaguer hopefuls...
  15. Well can you blame them? The top tier free agents are just flying off the shelves. First it was Charlie Morton. Then ...errr... Charlie Morton. And umm... Morton Charles. And Chuck Morton. Oh and Arlie-Chay Orton-May. At this pace, there won’t be anyone good left soon!!!
  16. It’s aa minor league deal. I doubt it’s tempered their interest in anyone...
  17. Well he had 3 good at bats...
  18. Another Bloom guy. I like Andriese, but he’s a role player, not a difference maker...
  19. Castillo was worth 2.4 fWAR in that short season, but he was also worth 4.1 fWAR in 201, making it his best season. Also, if Torres is much more valuable as you say, then his arbitration years will also be more expensive, correct? That is a factor...
  20. Also, is it really any crazier than getting the reigning NL MVP for a salary dump and two low upside A ball players?
  21. It does help if you don't try to bulk up packages with expendable players and actually include someone other teams might actually want. I struggle to put Chavis and Chatham in the latter category, since most teams already have guys like that...
  22. TAmpa Bays is not exactly in dire need of middle infielder types, as their starting SS is younger than Chatham, their starting 2B is only 6 months older than Chatham, and they have two prospects ranked in the top 50 by BA who both play middle infield in 2B/SS Vidal Brujan and BA #1 Wander Franco. If anything, this is a team unloading middle infield, not acquiring it. They might take Ward or Groome, however...
  23. The 1980 Red Sox had 5 with those 4 plus Tony Perez...
  24. Well they both make less than Heyward and Darvish respectively, so they could take them both back and shave payroll. Just not as much
  25. They should stop being so judgmental about that and put ARod and the other PED users in. It's a historic museum, after all, and they are part of the sport's history. Millard Fillmore was a s***** president (maybe? no idea.) but no one is trying to take his name out of history books...
