  1. I’m ok with Houck as a closer, but I’m on record as saying that particular role is overrated...
  2. Even Pumpsie seems questionable. He did post here and at free forums after leaving BDC. The one guy talksox really missed out on was andrewmitch. He would just attack people relentlessly and then block them. Classic stuff...
  3. Unless there is an injury, how many at bats do you think Chavis will get in April in Boston? Yes, it will be more than 0. But it might be less than 15.
  4. Casas is listed as being slightly taller (6'5" as opposed to the diminutive 6'4" Dalbec), but who knows how much the height difference really is. If Casas threw left-handed, it would give him a bigger edge based on physical tools...
  5. Andriese is the guy for when someone misses a single start or if there is a double header. But if someone if gong on the Injured List, it might be Houck or Seabold instead...
  6. The difference is if Andriese is not in the rotation, he will be in the bullpen. Houck looks like Boston rotation or Worcester rotation right now...
  7. Baseball-Reference and sportrac both note he has an opt-out after 2021. Cots does not acknowledge it beyond it being a mutual option if he has a Lisfranc injury. So I guess it comes down to what source you like best. Doesn't matter. Since he is NOT opting out...
  8. Some are. But a greater amount of others are out of MLB by then. Sometimes due to ineffectiveness. Sometimes due to injury. And sometimes they just cannot get a deal. Look at 32yo Rick Porcello...
  9. Nope. One more after 2021...
  10. I think this will be the ultimate fate of Houck - bullpen arm. Hey, that slider is the stuff of closers. Right now, toying with making him a starter is fine, and especially since he is a depth starter. Starters are harder to come by than relievers. But I think Houck ends up in the pen, possibly as a high leverage reliever if not a flat out closer...
  11. And to admit it as a method of avoiding questions...
  12. Dealing JD and his $19.75mill contract in 2022, which he is absolutely going to exercise, seems like it might be a lot more difficult than dealing Dalbec, who can actually play the field and makes 0 money comparatively...
  13. No idea about Dutchy, but do think Imperial59 was posting here when I started. That name looks vaguely familiar to me. But, hey, after using the name "notin" (which has no actual significance or meaning or similarity to my real name) and no other screen names* since I started posting ESPN, Boston.com, freeforums, talksox, and baseballtradevalues.com for a lot longer than I care to admit, it is nice to FINALLY be accused of having alternate trolling identities. (Assuming this Dutchy character was a noted troll. Was he? And did he share my addiction to parenthetical commentary and ending non-interrogative sentences in ellipses?) *As I lost the "notin" moniker due to a password snafu on mlbtraderumors, I do now use the alternate ID of "Ketch", which also has no significance...
  14. If Dalbec has an OPS of .785, Casas could be posting a 2.000 in Portland and all it will earn him is a trip to Worcester. Why risk losing Casas to free agency at age 28 to upgrade during a season in which the Sox are without Sale?
  15. If Casas takes over 1b from Dalbec, it does make Dalbec expendable and therefore a potential trade bait for pitching, especially if he only lost his job due to Casas raking, as you suggest, and not his own performance. So why relegate him to a bench role if/when he can be used to acquire a decent pitcher?
  16. It's one think to not bring up a 21yo Triston Casas now only to see him reach free agency at age 27, just as he is entering his "prime" years. But Houck will be entering his age 25 season this year. Delaying his service time therefore buys the Sox his age 32 season, which might not be worth it, if it ever even exists. I don't see service time being an issue here...
  17. Who is Dutchy? Retired forum poster? And if you think you finally figured me out, I am not all that complex...
  18. Middlebrooks had zero ability to recognize pitches and judge the strike zone (by MLB standards). Dalbec appears to be much, much better in this regard....
  19. But it keeps a forum inside joke alive...
  20. But is there any type of system that can be put in place that will not allow some sort of manipulation?
  21. The Players Union fought very hard to get a service time clock and free agency. It's not going way easily....
  22. But then the Sox are penciling him into the lineup knowing very well he could be hitting .215 by July 1st. Chances are they pay more attention to what they know he can do - draw walks and hit home runs. If he is hitting .215/.335/.450 with 12 Hrs on July 1st while batting 8th/9th, is his job really in jeopardy?
  23. Me neither. Apparently both Venus and Serena bought a share of Miai Dolphin team ownership back in 2009, when the pair were still dominating the tennis world...
