  1. I assumed sarcasm as you do have a past strongly advocating for Dombrowski's methodology...
  2. I am very far from a fan of this deal. Brad Miller was a much better choice. Also, still think the Sox need a LF or a 2B (depending on where Kike's plays). And I do not like Marwin for 2B...
  3. They did have more room, but both that does not mean the existing deals to Price and Eovaldi had no impact...
  4. As of right now, there is room for both. Soxprospects.com has both on the Red Sox roster, but then they also list 27 players (including Sawamura). So someone, possibly Chavis, is going somewhere. But then it could also be Austin Brice, as they list 9 relief pitchers. Or Taylor, who has an option but is also one of only 2 LHP in the pen. It does probably mean Mitch Moreland is not coming back...
  5. So you don't think bloating the payroll impacts the ability to sign other players? Mookie's demands were outrageous, but other teams dedicated amounts very close to other players. Anaheim committed more money to Trout. Philly committed a similar amount to Harper. And yet both had lower payrolls than the Sox...
  6. So that means anyone complaining about trading away Betts is 100% incorrect and it was the right move?
  7. If we needed all that, I would have preferred Brad Miller, who is a better hitter (OPS+ of 112 since 2018 as opposed to Marwin's 93), and plays the same positions the Sox might need (1b, 2B, corner OF). It's hard to compare defensive abilities of the two, since neither really has huge samples at any one position recently. Oh, and Miller is not a cheater (as far as I know)...
  8. The guy who will either supplement Dalbec at 1B or platoon with Renfroe in LF or maybe take over 2B so Kike Hernandez can move to CF where he will be flanked by Cordero and Verdugo. Marwin is Jose Altuve's former double play partner turned super-utility player turned garbage can cheater...
  9. Well, if the Sox still had a minor league system and did not have nearly $250mill tied up in MLB players with aging contracts, maybe Mookie is still here...
  10. Not a big Marwin fan, but, hey, maybe this is your 2B, moon...
  11. And maybe if we had not gotten rid of Mookie, he'd be gone now anyway.
  12. So far the Bradley speculation has come from "two rival GMs." Not exactly highly placed inside sources. I have no problem bringing Bradley back, but so far all there is is the speculation of two unnamed and unconnected people...
  13. A mere $800,000
  14. I'm OK with that...
  15. My favorite candidate on that list taking everything into consideration is Danny Mendick. No idea what it would take to get him, but his value on BTV is surprisingly low, probably due to projections not giving him much playing time. I am not sure if the Sox are taking the proximity of Jeter Downs into consideration, but Mendick played a lot of SS in the minors and allows the Sox to hedge their bets against Downs not arriving or Bogaerts opting out...
  16. I am not sure why anyone thought freeing up Benintedi's $6mill AAV would clear room for Ozuna...
  17. Absolutely. Right now, the goal should not just be improving this team (which he very well might have done already). But rather the goal needs to be improving this team to watchable levels that carry into September and (hopefully) beyond...
  18. That certainly does swing the pendulum the other way..
  19. Miami has two dirt cheap glove guys for CF, both of whom are benched behind Starling Marte in Lewis Brinson and Magneuris Sierra. Neither has ever shown much offense, but Sierra is a little younger and more likely to turn it all around. Although "more likely" is this case might still not mean all that much. As for 2B, Mike Moutakas is reportedly available, but has a very pricey contract and really, is not much for 2B. Danny Mendick of the White Sox was a Gold Glove finalist at 2B and is currently benched behind Nick Madrigal. Not sure what it takes to get him. Cleveland is reportedly shopping Amed Rosario. Detroit might be listening on Niko Goodrum, who lost his starting role when they re-signed Schoop. The Twins were shopping Luis Arraez, as they have a bulk of middle infielders on the MLB roster. But he is probably outside the Sox price range. Seattle might be willing to part with Jake Fraley (CF) or Dylan Moore (2B) for the right price. Atlanta has got to be looking to move Ender Inciarte to clear playing time for Christian Pache and possbily Drew Waters. St Louis has Lane Thomas, a CF with no place to play. Colorado will definitely trade CF Charlie Blackmom, but he makes a ton of money and cannot hit outside of Coors. Philly has two middling CF candidates in Adam Hasely and Roman Quinn. Doubtful they would miss either one. I doubt the Giants have any untouchables, but it would probably cost to bring Maurico Dubon back.
  20. If Benintendi returns to 2018 form and Winckowski and the PTBNL's flame out in AA, then this will definitely be a bad trade. And this is all far from a remote possibility...
  21. The ring itself was excellent. The attempt to keep the band together for another one really messed up the following season(s)...
  22. I doubt they move on Dickerson, whom Roster Resource lists as part of a platoon with Lewis Brinson. (I have my doubts.) But unlike with Rosario, if the Sox try to trade for Dickerson, they have the chance to have Miami include money and bring the total down a bit...
  23. If the Sox come in last this year, it will be due to massive injuries. Have you seen what Baltimore is trying to pass off as an MLB roster?
  24. The Sox traded an outfielder in Benintendi who had a career OPS+ of 107 and acquired an outfielder in Renfroe with a career OPS+ of 106. And that is destroying the team? Not to mention, in those two deals he also added another MLB outfielder and 4 prospects and did so without adding anything to the budget. How again are these bad moves?
  25. And when the team comes in last place with one of the highest payrolls in the league and everyone is losing interest, do the people footing the bills find consolation in how many people are wearing jerseys?
