Agreed. And I don’t know much about Lawler vs Mayer vs Watson vs House. I’m randomly picking one for Texas. I think when I first formulated this mini mock, some talking heads had Lawler at #1 overall, so I figured he’d go really high. I like Davis to Detroit, however, since 1) they do need bats in that org and 2) something unpredictable always happens in real drafts. After mild reflection, if I’m the Sox GM, dealing Dalbec and Mata for Mancini is a deal I would make. If I’m the Baltimore GM, Mata’s health issues and recent surgery would give me pause. Now if I’m the Baltimore GM, I would be all for a Downs/Mancini swap…

The health status should be a big deal for Baltimore. I do think that any team can be one year from competing if they make the right moves. Every year, some team or teams just manage to markedly improve despite what we all think of them in March. After all, Boston is doing just that right now. As is San Francisco and the Cubs. The Orioles probably have a similar mindset all winter…

At first glance, this trade does look very fair. BTV loves it, giving Mancini a surplus value of 20.7 and the Dalbec/Mata package a value of 21.5. It’s a good trade short term. Giving up Mata would be tough here, however. It’s certainly one that would make me hesitate, but not decline outright. And really, that should be the case with every fair trade. Well done…
