  1. The big issue with trading Mayer is the Sox are already down a couple of INF. Has Mayer ever had surgery before?
  2. Oh Alonso is not winning any Gold Gloves. He actually alreadyfields like he is wearing the statue as a mitt. As I said before, my theory is Alonso likely comes down to Bregman. Option or not, I am theorizing bringing Bregman back is Plan A. If the Sox do bring him back, I could see Rhys Hoskins at 1b and Casas at DH. Alonso is probably Plan B or lower. But if he is the target eventually, I would expect 2b/3b to be filled more cheaply. Like say, Luis Rengifo. So which plan is preferable - Bregman-Hoskins or Alonso-Rengifo? I’m not really sure which one will be cheaper, but for the sake of discussion, let’s call them equal…
  3. I hate the idea of including Yoshida in a Duran deal as an enticement to offload him. Duran is worth more than a relief pitcher (granted an elite one) and a teenage catcher with a history of back issues. If Yoshida can’t be traded, he can be optioned…
  4. So two trades I’ve seen posted on the clickbait sites: Mayer to MN for RHP Joe Ryan Duran and Yoshida to SD for RHRP Jeremiah Estrada and C Ethan Salas Not wild about either. Love Estrada. Salas is like 19 and has had back trouble. And I’m am not as crazy about Ryan as many on here…
  5. Boone is certainly doing his part. Season on the line. Tomorrow is no guarantee. But let Rodon give up 6 runs…
  6. Alonso rests 100% on Bregman. And not just his option - there is certainly a chance they re-sign him. If Bregman returns - no Alonso. Thsts where Hopkins enters the picture. Of course, losing out on Bregman doesn’t guarantee interest in Alonso…
  7. When has short-selling a star by dumping a bad contract with him ever worked out? I mean besides for the other team? The Sox aren’t getting Tucker and Hicks’ paltry (by comparison) two year deal isn’t an obstacle. Tucker’s price tag is. If you think Devers is paid appropriately for being a top 20 hitter in MLB, bear in mind Tucker is a top 10 hitter. Last 4 years wOBA - Devers 15th, Tucker 10th wRC - Devers 18th, Tucker 8th Hiscsalary will not be covered by Devers plus Hicks…
  8. Crazy limb here - but if the Sox get a 1b, the DH is probably Casas or Yoshida…
  9. I want the Dodgers and Yankees out. I hate watching the same non-Red Sox teams every year. A Mariners-Brewers World Series would be cool. I believe Seattle is the only team to never play in the Series, and the Brewers haven’t since 1982 (with Harvey’s Wallbangers). Plus both teams played their inaugural season in Seattle…
  10. I thought they were just hoping Treinen could get 3 outs before he gave up 3 runs…
  11. That was actually the original title of that song. But I think the consensus was it lacked the necessary urgency. “Meet the new boss. Got lots in common with the old boss.”… Not their best writing…
  12. And that was on full display last night. At least Philly decided to help them out with a questionable bunt call…
  13. C No one is taking Paez. You don’t see many A ball pitchers go in the Rule 5 draft…
  14. But does that mean you think he gets protected?
  15. This kind of thing is happening a lot. If you wait until they prove something, the contract gets much, much larger. Anthony’s deal, for example, was more than double. Campbell’s…
  16. Uberstine is not even on my radar. I think he doesn’t get protected and Maybe gets taken in the Rule 5 draft. And within 3 years, we have all forgotten he existed. Harrison’s questionable numbers in AAA could be related to reports that he was working on a new pitch and a new grip for one of his old pitches. If that’s true, there should have been a learning curve…
  17. He can always come out of retirement, like Rush…
  18. If Refsnyder retires, Eaton might be the RHH fourth OF, rather than putting Garcis in a role that maxes out around 40 games. Eaton will very likely be that guy that flops and returns to being the player he was pre-Boston, earning the disdain of many. But he certainly did earn the right to be that guy and flop for Boston. Heres the thing. If you think Campbell has to earn his way back as if he never destroyed MiLB pitching and wasn’t the Offensive Rookie of the Month for April and think he’s no different than Corey Rosier at this point, and if you’ve gone to the extent of thinking Password is more likely or more worthy of making the roster than Campbell is, then you have given up on him. He’s not back at Square One; thr Sox extended him for a reason, and they knew at the time there was a good chance he struggled at some point (I mean, he was struggling when they extended him.), but they did it because they had enough faith in him to overcome whatever obstacles he faced…
  19. Houck and Dobbins will both likely start the season on the 60 day IL, but they can’t be put on it until March. Until then, they are 2 of 11 SPs on the 40 man roster. I keep suggesting Fitts to the pen, just like I did with Whitlock. It took them 3 years to put Whitlock in the pen. I’ve been posting about Fitts for two. If history here means anything (it doesn’t), Fitts won’t go to the pen for another year. Tolle is going to Worcester. The Sox could start the season with Crochet-Bello-Sandoval-Crawford-Early in the rotation, which will appease 0 fans. But right now, that’s the most likely rotation. I suppose Harrison might be trade bait.
  20. Sure, but by next year they get back Sandoval, Fitts, Perales, and Crawford, on top of Crochet, Bello, Sandoval, Early, Tolle, Dobbins, and Houck already set up for the 40 man. They might add a SP. But I have my doubts anyone here would call said pitcher a #2..,
  21. I think the most likely omission from that is the SP2…
  22. I am 99% sure they have no desire to take back Hicks’ salary, even if you up the players…
  23. Even with the balloon payment, the horribly flawed BTV gives him a surplus value of $10mill. So no salary dumping allowed. At that value, a slew of Sox players and prospects are acceptable, including Early, Perales, Romero, Cespedes, Valera, and several more. Id hope the Sox hold on to Early and Perales, Beyond that I am ambivalent…
  24. Alcantara is owed $21mill for 2026 with a club option for 2027 set at $25mill ($2mill buyout).
  25. Kennedy said the Sox would spend the money. Yacht crews aren’t cheap, you know…
