    Ramirez could have gotten more on the open market; he is very happy in Cleveland and did not want to leave. His deal is a textbook definition of hometown discount.

    The Yankees have struggled. The O's are on a pace to win 99 games. That is not struggling.

    Problem is no one knows how to slide feet first anymore. There was nothing prettier back in the day than a well executed hook slide.

    Marlins can pitch, but the last 3 games have been ridiculous. This is a team that is expecting something to go wrong every game and when it does, they fold up in a fetal position.

    One way to stop these infielders from blocking the base is to screw the headfirst slide go in feet first hard. It will cease very quickly.

    Like I said, I wasn’t going to go figure out the discrepancy for the 40th guy on the list. Scott is utterly replaceable no matter whether he’s on the 40 man or not.

    Like I said, this is one of those games where the pitcher has nothing. Mussina said out of 32 starts, a pitcher has everything in 8 of them, nothing in 8 of them and something in the rest. They happen.

    I specifically said not you; see the phrase inside the parentheses in my OP. You actually know baseball. There are some posters here who think every bloop hit, infield chopper, etc. means the pitcher sucks. To those posters, JBJ pulling three balls back from over the fence means the pitcher is doing fine. You most certainly are not one of the posters.

    Baseball’s weird. Bob Uecker hit .429 against Sandy Koufax in over 50 ABs. He hit like .200 overall.

    Per some here (not you), that’s a sure sign of lousy pitching. Three shots like Duvall’s is a sign of good pitching.

    Duvall at least seems to be out of the miserable part of his slump. 3-4 hard hits balls the last couple games.

    Exactly. Alcantra won the NL Cy Young last year; he’s had a rough year so far, but he still can be nasty.

    Scott's irrelevant; he's not on the 40 man. DFAing him means nothing. Not sure why they obtained him to begin with, but that's a different discussion.

    Devers has been in a slump since the beginning of last August. His slash for that timeframe is .244/.317/.444/.761 in 129 games. His career numbers are .279/.339/.509/.848 in 764 games, and those numbers are being dragged down by the last 5 months. He's had times in the past where he slumps trying to do to much, but this year especially, it looks like he's trying to hit an 8 run 500 foot homer every time up. I hope the plate discipline he showed this weekend will continue; it will be better for him and the club.

    Looked to me like Sheets was about 45-60 feet from home as Casas caught the ball. I thought he had a shot, though it would have taken a virtually perfect throw and tag (so it probably would not have happened). White Sox tv crew said he may have had a shot as well. Reasonable people can disagree here. But you are correct. Casas’ real screwup was on Benintendi. That was a play I learned as a first time first baseman when I was a 12 year old Little Leaguer and further instilled through Babe Ruth, high school and Legion ball (well maybe not so much there; I didn’t play much at that point). A major leaguer should not be messing that up.
